Free ticket: what if I already have ticket?

I have already reserved my MYW package for March.

I am planning to do GAD, and if I choose the free ticket (which I would use on my first day and then upgrade to a 7-day ticket), what do I do about the fact that I've already signed up for a 7-day ticket. Will Disney refund me $79 at that point?

Or do I need to cancel the ticket portion of my current reservation? (My deadline for cancellation with no penalty is next Monday.)

BUT... my current reservation takes advantage of the buy-4-get-3-free-deal, for which I think I have to purchase at least a 1-day ticket. :confused3

Hmmm... maybe I should just take the Fast Pass option instead...... ;)

I figure that I can call WDW tomorrow and ask these questions, but I'm never quite sure about the reliability of answers there. I feel more confident asking the experts here. :)

Thanks.

The GAD ticket cannot be applied to any package because a package must be paid for in full prior to arrival. It is only valid that day and must be used for entry to a Park. Once it has passed through a turnstile it then carries the value of a one-day, one-park pass and may be upgraded to any ticket, as long as it is done within 14 days.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #16, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature.

In that post your other options are explained.

That's what I suspected, but wanted it confirmed by the expert. :goodvibes

When you say, "The GAD ticket cannot be applied to any package because a package must be paid for in full prior to arrival," that makes it perfectly clear.

This is implied in this statement in Post #16: "If you have a currently valid annual or multi-day pass in your possession to [you?] have three alternate choices instead of the one-day, one-park pass." But I still wasn't quite sure when I had read post #16, hence my question here.

Thanks for clearing this up for me! :)

You can set aside your resort pckage ticket for a future vacation and redeedm your Give A Day ticket and upgrade it for this vacation.

Contrary to what some concierges might tell you, you can have your pacakget ticket taken off of your room key and put on a separate card for safekeeping and avoiding accidental use/activation.

OK, except I am taking advantage of the buy-4-get-3-free deal, so I would lose that savings -- in which case, I don't think I would come out ahead financially.

Right?

Or am I still confused? :goodvibes

I'd either do the Fast Pass option *or* see if you can add the No Expiration option on the GAD ticket for future use.

When you check in, you will get a 7-day MYW ticket (or however many days you actually booked). You can do with that as you please. You do NOT need to use it now, and it will not expire until 14 days after you first use it. So you can save it for a later date, and use the GAD ticket now to take advantage of that instead.

Just be careful NOT to use the package ticket, which will come on your KTTW card. Go to the resort concierge desk and see about getting it removed from your KTTW card and placed on separate media.
