Free Soda>>>>Opinions?!?!

we were on the 6/26 eastern. the free soda was great! there was never more than 1 or 2 people ahead of me, ice and iced tea were always available. true you had to walk from wherever but i brought a large glass so i didn't have to make the trip so often. more importantly, the real soda drinkers (the children) didn't mind at all and didn't bug me once about soda.

throw a water bottle or large cup in your suitcase and you will be all set.

IMO disney determined that this method of dispensing soda was either cheaper or less work for the bar staff or both. although it appears that disney established the free soda in response to customer requests, it is my experience that corporations usually do things out of self interest. if that self interest happens to coincide with customer wishes so much the better.

We sailed on the 7/24 Magic...I loved the free soda...we never experienced much of a wait, maybe a few people. The one thing I really liked was that I found I actually drank LESS soda when it was free, b/c I didn't feel like I had to get my money's worth out of my mug. I also didn't have to carry my mug around. We did buy the coconuts one night at dinner, as we thought they would make an excellent addition to our bar, and I used my coconut once or twice. All in all, I thought it was a wonderful addition. It would be nice if they put one forward near the adult pool, but not having one there did force me to drink more water, which is better for me anyway. Just a few thoughts.

How big is the mug that you can still buy? Or how much does it hold? Trying to decide if I should bring my own or buy one?!

Here is pic of the mug....it may or may not have the same design as this one was from awhile back....

If you have ever been to WDW and bought the resort refillable mug....these are the same size. They look bigger than they really are. They are thick so they do not hold as much liquid as you would think by the picture. Don't know the exact oz. capacity.

Thanks mmouse37
for the picture!

We do have mugs from Wilderness Lodge and the cruise one's look bigger! I just hope they still have them when we go!

:sunny:
My luck, they'll stop selling them the week before!

We too were on the July 24 cruise and never had a problem with the machines. I even went up there a few early mornings in my bathrobe - no one in sight. Agree with JoanneL about taking your own cup though.

Think we'll just buy the mugs on board and put our name, stateroom # on the bottom. I DON'T need one more thing to pack!

I really enjoyed it on our trip. I don't drink much soda, but I was using my mug for the iced tea from the pop machine--the iced tea dispensers were broken the entire cruise, so I drank the diet nestea out of the pop machine.
They did run out of ice about every day but brought coolers up to replenish often.
If I didn't want the exercise, I'd send one of the kids on an iced tea run!;) "go get mommy some tea, willya?"

I'm curious. What coconuts are you talking about? I assume they're some type of cup/glass.

The coconuts are a plastic drink mug in different colors that is in the shape of a coconut. We could have purchased them on the second night in the dining room. I never saw them again for purchase after that. HTH

We were on the 7/24 Magic cruise as well. The free soda was great. On the mornings that it was necessary to have caffine in the early am before getting dressed to go eat, it was very convienent to run up and get something and go back to the room . The lines were never really a problem and the ice machine that was closest to the water machine usually had ice even if the others were out. The one or two times that every ice machine was out of ice CM's were there passing it out. Even though we had to walk from the adult pool to the soda machines if we wanted some, we enjoyed walking on deck 10 and coming down the stairs right at the machines.
