Free parking?

I was reading that "valid Disney Resort hotel identification" is required to park for free at the theme parks. What is valid ID, is the fact you checked in added to your magic band, or do you have to get a piece of paper from the hotel for your car instead of going directly to the parks the morning you'll be checking in? DVC doesn't let you in your rooms until after 4p, so we wanted to make use of our park tickets asap that morning.

They will scan your Magic Band. If you are parking on your check in day, whether you have actually checked in or not, you will be good to go.

You can park for free the entire day of your check-in. We check-in via MDE and don't even go to the hotel lobby. The magic band lets you in the room. The magic band also is used when you enter the parking lot.

Thanks for replying, guys, but I think you have the theme park parking lots (which I was told do not scan magic bands) with the resort parking lots. After posting my question I called DVC and was told I had to check in at the front desk to get the paper to put on the dashboard. And could not do it before 6am that day.

You got bad information from that CM. The theme park lots will scan your MB, although I have also been waved thru as well. All done without the resort parking paper on my dashboard. There is no need to check in at the front desk. However, you are not officially a guest of the resort until 6 AM. You can be considered a resort guest at that time even though your villa isn’t ready until 4 PM or later.

We have stayed at Saratoga Springs four times in the past 3 years and have not received a printed parking pass. This is one of the reasons why they mail you magic bands in advance.

You do see some parking passes in some cars, but not sure why. Perhaps some people want them?

I have not gotten that paper for the car in over two years. When you go to the theme parks they will scan your band to see you have a hotel reservation, you don't need to stop at your hotel first.

Some people decline magic bands for various reasons.
