Our library allows you to "check out" passes to some local museums for free.

Some are good for free admission for 2-4 people and some are good for B1G1F.

I just thought that I'd pass this along. Maybe they have something similar in other parts of the country.

I saw a TV commercial and they were doing this at the Detroit public libraries too. I don't live in Detroit though.

We have those in Royal Oak but they're checked back out so fast I've never been able to snag one. But they're a fantastic idea! Last year they did a thing with the State Parks, too - "read in the park" or something like that where you could get a daypass.

Our local library does them, you can reserve passes one at a time on the internet. Some are a coupon you don't have to return and can pick up anytime before going, some are an actual pass you have to pick up on the way and return w/in a day. Lately most are not free but 50% off. Today I took DD to a local science museum and got 50% off, but by the time I was done paying admission and the planetarium it was $20 for the two of us.

Just an FYI, Target has a program where certain museums are free or reduced periodically.

If you have a Bank of America cerdit card, they also have a free program the first weekend of every month.

Our library has a similar program for several places. We just went to the Intrepid in NYC 2 weeks ago. The pass was good for up to 6 admissions. We are a family of 4 and it saved us 80.00!!!! You can reserve it for a few days (Tues to thurs or Fri to Mon) but it is $5 a day in late fees if not returned on time.

Our library has a pass for the Intrepid in NYC and also one for the American Museum of Natural History. It's GREAT to be able to do that! Haven't been to the Intrepid yet but DS wants to go into Times Square and see a few things so I think we will wait till it gets a bit warmer and combine it with seeing the Intrepid. :goodvibes

In the Atlanta area, they do this for tickets to the zoo.

My local library a few miles north of Boston offers passes to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Mystic Aquarium, Peabody Essex Museum, Children's Museum, New England Aquarium, Museum of Science, and the zoo. I think they are all discounted admission. My sister who lives in NH about 1.5 hours from Boston can also get museum discounts for some Boston Museums from her local library as well as more local discounts.

Also if you have a membership to a local museum check if it offers recipricality. Using my Boston Museum of Science membership we have gotten 4 people in for free (I have an 8 person membership but recipricality is usually limited) to the USS Intrepid in NYC, children's museum in NH etc.

in CT- every library I've ever been to has these.....love them!
