Free Magazines?

I noticed a while back on one of these budget topics (my favorite topic on the boards, btw!) that a few people mentioned getting magazine subscriptions for free...I was wondering if anyone has any info on this. Is it through Mypoints? I would love some ways to save money, but I am always so skeptical of the "something for nothing" approach...I don't want to make a costly mistake.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have gotten a few mags from this site. Once in a while a promotional offer will come out for a good magazine like FamilyFun or TVGuide- you have to watch the freebie forums (or this board) to get in on those- they are limited and they go fast.

I think I do get more junk mail/email... when I sign up for these things but I don't really mind- that's what my spam filter is for.

Has anyone ever ordered from magazines.com?? The prices seem great, just wanted to make sure it was ligitimate and secure.

I go to Slickdeals and watch the Free Magazine forum. You have to watch diligently - most offers are gone within hours. I've gotten tons of magazines for myself and my family. I use a junk email address to register so that I can dump the spam once every couple of weeks.

There are also some good posts as far as "how to's" and info in case you're wary about getting charged. The regulars on that board are pretty quick as far as knowing which offers are legit and which aren't - and since it's mostly the regulars posting, you'll rarely run into one that's not legit.

http://www.startsampling.com sometimes offers free magazine subscriptions (sometimes it's a free sub. and sometimes it one issue). You have to be registered to get them and yo uhave to watch because they don't always last long, but I've gotten Romantic Homes, Horticulture, Sailing World, Florida Travel and Life and others for free.

I also second slickdedals. Found lots of good mags from them, but you do have to be a bit obsessive as the offers usually come and go very quickly.

I'm fairly certain it's secure, and I KNOW it's legitimate. I get Cruise Travel and Reader's Digest through this site, and I used to get the Disney Magazine :( but that subscription stopped before publication did.
