Free hot water?

When I was there last May, they just instituted a new policy of no free hot water. You had to buy tea to get hot water and a tea bag. I am hoping they have changed/dropped that policy.
Any news? Has anyone tried to get hot water in the parks?

Has anyone asked at a counter-serve for hot water?

Now I know a LOT of people used to take their own tea bags, packs of Via or other coffee packs when Nescafe was the coffee, etc.
Has everyone stopped taking their own packs and just buys what is available on-site?
Has no one asked for a cup of hot water at a counter-service place in the last year?

At Disneyland they stopped giving out hot water because people were getting it for formula, but not checking the temp before feeding and at least one baby got burned. I couldn't figure out why the counter service guy was so snotty to me when I asked for hot water, and he told me to heat up my formula at the baby care center. I just wanted to use my Starbucks Via, lol.

So anyway, at Disneyland you are out of luck. It might be the same at all Disney parks now.

I was told at my resort QS that the water was free but I had to pay for the cup!

A little cheeky asking for hot water to make your own drinks.

Well, really it is the same as asking for ice water and adding Crystal Light or other packets.
Or putting a birthday down on every reservation to get free cupcakes in every restaurant. :sunny:

Well, yes. I suppose it is.

Those are all excellent examples of using a restaurant's resources and an employee's time with no benefit for either of them.

the last sentence is probably why birthday cupcakes are fewer now. I think many people drink ice water with their meals. I don't know of many that drink hot water (although I am sure there are a few). I know restaurants by me have to provide tap water to patrons. I wonder if Florida has a similar law and therefore, tap water is available for free.

Well difference being that Disney wants you to spend birthdays at Disney and are happy to give out free cupcakes for your entire stay. Disney employees encourage you to wear a birthday badge and get perks throughout your stay. Also the dining places do not care if it is your birthday on another day of your trip and are happy to celebrate the day you dine with them.

On the other hand there are plenty of vendors selling coffee and tea that are not getting sales if they give you hot water to use your own.

Tap water is also free in the park anyway at the drink fountains.

You could say it is the same as asking for iced water at a QS restaurant - which they do hand out I guess.

They hand out ice water because some guests don't like warm drinking fountains. they don't drink water. They get dehydrated. They end up being carted away by the paramedics. Nobody specifically needs to make their own tea to stay hydrated, so maybe they just don't want to make it easier for guests not to buy something.

Not when their coffee is so repellant that it isn't drinkable. Honestly, it's a pretty sad state of affairs when instant coffee is more palatable than the brown water they pretend is coffee at the parks. In addition, good luck getting a cup of coffee in the evening, either.

Things are better now that Starbucks has invaded, but I started bringing instant coffee because the coffee at Disney Parks was swill, and nearly impossible to get in the afternoon and evening.

Really? Where does it state that? I know you advocate putting birthday down on every ADR for a free cupcake in past posts. I think it is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black to say it is cheeky to ask for free hot water.

Cast members on the phone usually offer to do it for you anyway and say to wear a badge so everyone knows throughout the trip so they can wish you happy birthday and shower you with treats. I'm not advocating asking for things beyond the norm of what disney cast members already offer.

I'm sorry if I offend but coffee, tea and other hot drinks are available to buy so trying to get free hot water is not going to be something Disney are likely to offer to you. Maybe a good thermos would be useful if you can't get some hot water inside the parks.

Couldn't have said it better.

I don't know about the parks, but I thought they had hot water available at the food courts. I remember they had many kinds of tea bags over by the condiments along with sugar, honey etc. I believe there was a hot water spout to make your tea in the refillable mug. If you didn't have a refillable mug, I would assume you would have to pay for a cup even if you had your own tea bag.

In the parks, I would fully expect to pay for tea.

Is this for a sit-down restaurant? If so, to me, that is like bringing my own can of soda to a restaurant because I don't want to pay them for a soda. If I misunderstood, I apologize for my presumptuousness

Of course not.

I stated counter-serve in post 2 & 3.
