Free Hot Water at the resort?

Searched and didnt find the answer so here goes. When we go to the world, at the resort I find i end up drinking a lot more hot tea than i do soda. Im trying to decide between getting the refillable mug or not. If you do not have a refillable mug, can you still get hot water for free in a regular cup?

Im happy to bring my own tea bags, but I find it very convenient to be able to make my tea while i eat, rather than having to go back to the room to make it, and then come back. Its a split stay and from what I am reading, If i did buy a mug, it would only be usable for part of my stay, not the whole time. So that makes me even less inclined to get the mug this trip.

My experience with this has been inconsistent. I've never been told I couldn't get hot water, but they would usually only give me a regular water cup which isn't insulated. They didn't have cup sleeves, so it was difficult to actually carry the cup anywhere (sometimes even to the table). So now I either bring my own cup or sleeve.

as a fellow tea drinker, I understand. yes you can get hot water for free. but you can't get a cup for free (I don't think). so you'll have to bring your own mug/cup. just don't take their tea bags that are sitting right there, though. (not insinuating that you would. but there are people that would).

actually, at some of the resorts they have been keeping the tea bags at the cashier, and you have to ask her for one. theydo this because people were grabbing a whole bunchof tea bags.

now, as to the SPLIT STAY... you most certainly CAN use the same mug for your entire trip. I do it all the timeand have no feelings of guilt whatsoever. this is even mentioned in the sticky at the top of the "one and only refillable mug thread".

I know there are some folks on this board who insist it is not allowed, or isn't "fair" or is "stealing" with all due respect to their opinions, they are wrong.

I have X amt. of money to take my Disney vacation. maybe I can afford 10 days at a value, but only 6 at a moderate. (just picking numbers out of the blue here).
but I find I can stay longer, or stay for some days at a pricier resort. maybe I can only afford 2 or 3 nights a Animal kingdom lodge. believe me, Disney really wants you to stay a while at a pricier resort. (and you might like it so much, you'll stay longer next time). they will not penalize you for spending more money at Disney!!

the mugs are identical at all the resorts. I have never once heard of anyone who purchased 4 mugs for their family at one resort, moved over to another, put those mugs in their suitcases and then purchased 4 more identical mugs. who would? so if you stayed at 3 dif. resorts (which we have a few times), a family of 4 would purchase 12 mugs for on SINGLE vacation? nonsense.

yes, I realize you are purchasing the soft drinks, not just the mug. but Disney's intention is for you to have unlimited soft drinks with your new mug for your entire single Disney vacation.

enjoy your tea!! enjoy your mug, if you purchase one, for your entire trip! and enjoy your Disney trip!!!:dance3:

I know in the past, using the mugs for split stays worked because they couldnt "turn the mug off" after part of your stay, but with the RFID chip coming, that could change things majorly. Im eagerly awaiting feedback from the people who get to start using the RFID machines, so we can learn the Ins and Outs for the new process.

Thanks for your responses. I will be bringing my own insulated cup and tea bags!

they tried the chips at sports. that was a while ago.

if they do convert to the chips in the mugs, I will simply go to the manager with my receipt for the mug, and my reservations, proving I am still on my SINGLE disney vacation.. I have no doubt they will do whatever necessary to ensure I can use my mug I purchased for my disney vacation.

our last trip was april.. no problem at all using the mugs from Pop at AOA, and then at Boardwalk. I'm not concerned.

.

Yeah, I thought they dropped the whole idea. From what I remember, the testing they did (a year or so ago) didn't go well.

yeah, I think it was timed or something, so after engaging the chip you had to wait a certain amount of time to engage it again.

and, OP, back to your original topic, I bring tea bags everywhere I go (even to my own sons' houses!!) tea drinkers are discriminated against . quote from hubby Nebo: "as well they should be!". harrumph.

anywhere you go, church meetings, school meetings, kid's sports meetings, motels along the road with the free hot breakfast, it's coffee, coffee coffee! a big box of tea bags is cheap, so I bring my own. but I do enjoy the English breakfast tea and esp. the Earl Grey tea at the disney resorts.

There is a thread on the rumor board that property wide RFID mugs are on their way soon.

I heard they are going in starting July 15th, thats what got me pondering about water.

I now pack a small ziplock baggie with a handful of splenda and tea bags so I can make tea when I travel, because I cant stand coffee. There is not enough milk and sugar in the world to make it taste good, and most hotel coffee makers have a way to take out the filter and just make hot water.

I am a massive dr pepper drinker, and they dont serve dr pepper at WDW so, tea has been my way of not having to go offsite to buy a 12 pack, and a way to avoid a nasty caffeine headache.

OP, just to let you know, the tea bags that are available at disney are the twinings brand. They also sell boxes of the stuff at the UK in Epcot. Just in case you run out :) (it's more expensive of course, so definitely better to bring your own)

if they RFID the mugs perhaps its more along the lines of stopping people who got their mugs last year, or the year before and still using them.

Since they change the mugs so infrequently there are so many millions of them hanging around. And HOW would anyone know if you are using a cup you got this year, or the one you got last year??

I know the ones we got last year still look brand new... so we could bring those back this year and have 8 mugs to use and no one would know..LOL

We have the DDP so its a moot matter to us... but perhaps RFID'ing the cups is a cheaper fix than new mugs every year.

yes, that is the reason they might go to the RFID (not to stop someone from using the mug at the 2nd resort they stay at). it was suggested that they enact the chip for a 2 week period, and that it would work at any reesort (cause honestly, Disney doesn't care if you are staying at, say the beach club, and fill your mug at the boardwalk bakery while getting a breakfast sandwich, etc) I suppose if you stay longer than 2 weeks, they could reactivate the chip? but for most people, 2 weeks would work fine, and then it would cover split stays, since MANY people do split stays.
