When we stayed at the All-Star Movies in January 2001 we requested a refrigerator for medical purposes (breast milk). Do the resorts still provide these free of charge for such a reason. We are in the same situation for our trip in January.

Yes, they will still supply the refrigerators free of charge whenever it is for medical reasons.

Thank you SueEllen,
Should I request the refrigerator ahead of time or when I check in?

I would also have a note of proof from a doctor. Many people claim they need it for medical purposes to avoid the charge.

I would check with your resort first about it being free. When we went this past April MIL and DN needed fridge for diabetic things and they were charged, even with proof from dr. Sounded to me like they were charging everyone because of so many people trying to get them for free when it wasn't necessary. Good luck to you.

Hi, Miss Magnolia!

The free fridge for medical reasons is a random kind of thing. Sometimes Disney doesn't charge and sometimes they do. A few years ago when everyone was requesting one they went to a system of everyone has to pay no matter what the reason. Now it seems to depend on the CM who takes the phone call and it is not guaranteed.

Come on over to the disABILITIES board if you have any further questions(smile).

Oh, and we have one of the little car plug-in coolers that has an adaptor for the hotel room. This way I never have to worry about having a fridge or not, as it is all taken care of for my medications that need to be kept cool.

I don't think breast feeding is something they would consider as a medical necessity.

PLEASE don't yell at me, I am all for bfding!

Back when this used to be policy to lend them for free, breastmilk was considered a reason to give one free. I know that the front desk of the Poly offered to take a friend's medication and keep it refrigerated for her to avoid the charge and she just went to the front desk to get it. I doubt the front desk would want to handle bags/bottles of breastmilk though.

Just to be sure, buy one of those small plug in coolers. It would be cheaper than a week's worth of renting. Check for Black Friday deals and see if anyone is offering them discounted too!

I stayed in the polynesian this past July. I was breastfeeding and they allowed me to have the fridge in my room at no charge. So as you can see the resorts DO consider breastfeeding a medical necessity, and no, I did not need a Dr.'s note, I believe my baby was proof enough.

Hope this helps

I made the suggestion about the note so the OP wouldn't have problems when she made her request. It still depends on the resort or CM whether they charge or not. Better to be prepared than be surprised by the extra charge. Anyone could claim they were breast feeding to get the free refrig.

We just got back from POR and were there from 10/27 to 11/12. I rang ahead of time to get the fridge for DH insulin and just simply reminded them when we checked in, I was expecting a medical size fridge which is the size of a shoe box which would have been perfect to keep all of his insulin pens cool but instead we recieved a mini bar sized fridge which kept the baileys for me, the diet coke for him, and assorted goodies for us, cool for 2 weeks free of charge. so ring ahead and remind on the day.
cheers!
Ella

We just stayed at ASMo this past weekend and had the frig for free. We had just made the reservation last Wednesday and told them at the time the my son was taking med for an infection and we had the frig in our room and didn't get charged.

I had completely forgot to ask about it because we have a frig in our car that we could have taken into the room, but it was there.

Thanks to all who have replied!

We received the fridge free two years ago, but times change. I'm glad to see all is the same. I'll call and make the request.

sorry safetymom, I didn't mean to imply that a Dr. excuse wasn't a good idea, I just didn't have one. I believe you are absolutely right! It is best to have your ducks in order.:D
