Free eyeglasses today only

Today only Coastal contact.com has free glasses. When you check out use code "FREEGLASSES63". If you need to order more than one pair, you would need a new email account. You only pay for shipping and upgrades. Still a lot cheaper than the $200 plus we have to pay at the eye doctor. I have used them before and the glasses are pretty good.

Just as an FYI. I am an eye doctor and have to deal with problems my patients have from Coastal Contacts a lot. The reason the contacts there are so cheap is that many are ready to expire. If you have a problem with the comfort or prescription you can't return them. And those frames have been bought from close outs where they are discontinuing the frame so there is no warranty on them. Or, are made very poorly and often break easily. I know money is tight for everyone but your eyes are not something you should go cheap on! Just a friendly message from someone who takes care of eyes all day long

So we should go to a store that will charge us $200 for a frame just so it can be under warranty? It sound like the dealership that says only we can fix your car right and change your oil properly. Many people buy contacts and glasses on line without no problem. If we get the right script info from the doctor,the problems may be at a min. This is a US based company and I think that it is against the law to sell outdated medical supplies. People were mad when carmax started selling cars on line but after awhile everyone started doing if. We have been force by drug companies to buy our meds online and now we bank and pay bills online. So way not buy glasses?

Why pay $200 for glasses frames? Why would anyone buy from an optometrist? They are always overpriced. You can get great deals at places like Costco.

It is against the law to sell outdated medical supplies. But not ones that will expire in one month. If you buy a year supply of contacts and they all expire in one month, its not illegal but then you are wearing expired contacts for the next 11 months. I was talking about Coastal Contacts in particular, there are tons of places that are fine and we match most of the prices in my office. We pay more ourselves than what Coastal sells them for, so you have to wonder why. And just like cars, you always have a choice between a cheap or expensive brand. As long as you know what you are buying its fine.

You will need a copy of your script when you order on line but that sale is over. Another good site to use is" eyebuydirect.com ". I would not be surprise if some of these doctor's offices buy their stuff online and charge us for the mark up.

Expensive does not mean better. So would you let the dealer install a dvd system in your car for $2000 or let an outside shop install the same system for $700? If I paid $75,000 for a car and you paid $12,000,they both will do the same thing get us from point a to point b. But after your 36,000 mile warranty is up my "cheap" car will still have its 100,000 warranty active. When it is time to buy parts, auto zone will have everything that I need ,you will be stuck buying from the dealer. Spending more does not mean that you are getting something better. I book my car rental at price line and you use a travel agent.

Well, I should have just given the kids the $200 because I ended up having to go back to my regular optometrist to get some glasses I could actually use. I wasted so much of my time and money fighting with PV to get some glasses I could see out of. I've been wearing glasses since I was 5 years old so when, for the first time in my life, I couldn't see out of my new glasses, I knew something was wrong. They made me FOUR different pairs of glasses and I couldn't see properly out of any of them. I went back to my optometrists office with my tail between my legs and got some glasses I could see out of.

My optometrist's office told me that for most people, you can get away with the "cheap" eye places and you won't have problems. But for some people, like me, if the glasses aren't make perfectly, then I can't see out of them right. It was like I was feeling sea sick everytime I tried to wear the P.V. glasses.

Anyway, that's my story!

No company or person is perfect,If you buy in the store, online or ebay you will find a problem. When a person makes a statement that a group or company does bad business based upon a few limited experiences, I have a problem with that. Often people that have good experiences don't write reviews because everything has went good for them but it takes one bad experience for a person to say all types of negative things. Look at Southwest Airline, some say that they are the worst and will never fly them but others swear that they are the best. Take every review with a grain of salt and look at the tone of a message.

I have to agree with the eye doctor on this topic. I only have one pair of eyes and there is no way I would risk injury or making my vision worse by going on the cheap for glasses or contacts. I'm very frugal too, but there are lines I draw in the sand and this just happens to be one of them.

With that, if others choose to use an online service or get their glasses for free more power to them. That is not something I would do.
