anyway, How does one get free dining?

Well, for us we received a mailer offering either 30% room only discount for dates ending September 29 or free dining with regular priced room and tickets for dates during our travel time. Try calling and ask if you have a PIN code attached to your name/phone number.

calling...? Any particular number? Or just call the number to book a trip?

Free Dining is part of booking a resort package. To qualify for free dining some people receive a pin code through snail mail or email or you can call and see if there's a pin attached to your name. However, just because you call won't guarantee that you'll get free dining.

Another way to get free dining is when it's offered to the public. It will be announced on the Disney website and will be included in "Special Offers" under the "Packages" tab. Check the disboards because there might be an offer coming out this week and it will certainly be posted immediately when that happens.

so i have seen a lot of talk on free dinning and a lot of people say they received a pin or a coupon from disney....how does one obtain that?

To get free dining, you have to pay full rate for the room at a participating resort for your dates and buy at least a 2 day MYW ticket for everyone in the room. If you are staying at a value resort, you will get the quick service dining plan included, if at a moderate or deluxe you will get the regular dining plan included.

Free Dining is a discount that Walt Disney World has been offering for the last 8 years. For the first 5 years it was mainly just offered in the August/September time frame. A few years ago they started offering it during select low crowd seasons in October - March.

The WDW Fall/Winter 2012 Free Dining Dates are supposed to be released July 12 for the general public. The only room category that will be excluded are the Little Mermaid rooms at the Art of Animation Resort - all other resorts will be included. Remember, as long as your CHECK-IN dates falls within these dates you can apply the free dining discount to your entire stay:

9/30 - 10/4
10/19 - 11/1
11/9 - 11/15
11/23 - 11/29
12/10 - 12/13

Why are LM rooms excluded if none of the other value rooms are?

Because with the huge popularity of the Little Mermaid rooms, they already have limited availability for some dates, so Disney doesn 't need to fill those rooms. The whole purpose of Disney offering/creating free dining promotions is to fill on-site resort rooms. If a resort has a high percentage of rooms already booked for a proposed set of dates, they are not going to offer a deep discount like free dining during that time frame.

FD is the reason I switched back to Pop. I really wanted to stay at AoA in the LM rooms but now I will have free dining :) I am sure a lot of people will be switching too.

I missed the free dining by 2 days, but I really want to keep my room at AOA Little Mermaid..and it's excluded anyway..Probably a good thing ....I eat way to much on the dining plan and spend too much time waiting to eat, not to mention it makes my waist expand!!:lmao:

That's what I think we'd run into as well... We arrive December 1 so It won't apply to us anyway. The whole reason we're staying there is for the LM rooms and Nemo pool. I considered switching to mod if the dates worked and having a "better" hotel for the price, but I think we're better off w AoA- looks like a fab hotel. This trip is really about my DD5 anyway- and she lives and breathes for Ariel!

Let's add "fill on-site resort rooms at Full Price."

Normally you'll pay full price for whatever room you get attached to free dining. Most of the time you'll get a much better discount some other way, so make sure you exhaust any other room discounts you might qualify for or simply wait for room rates to drop before you go and pay full price for a hotel room just for the "free" dining.
