Free Dining

I've seen people talk about free dining in different threads. I was wondering, how do you go about getting free dining? Is it when you book a hotel stay at a Disney resort? Does it have to be a deluxe resort or value resort too?

TIA for your help. This is my 1st trip going to Disney this year and I am pretty clueless. For my next time planning I would love to stay on Disney property AND of course get free dining!

Free dining is an offer Disney has offered the past few years to help bring people into the parks and to fill rooms.

This year the free dining promo is offered at all of the resorts (with limited rooms allotted to the program) from August 24th to September 20th. In order to qualify you must book at a Disney resort and check in starting in the date range listed for a maximum of a 14 day stay. You must book a package which includes the room, dining and at least a one day park ticket for each member in the package reservation.
