I just booked a full week from Sept 14 / 21 2006 with free dining for myself , hubby and twins (4 yrs old) and was wondering all day long about the fact that it will be in the middle of hurricane season....who else is having second thoughts???? :guilty:

You are not alone...
I am sure "The Perfect Storm" will be blowing in the week we are there, 9/30-10/7.
We just missed a bunch of hurricanes in 2004, but friends that were there for
one said they just hunkered down, parks closed for a day to a day and a half.

We dont have a choice for our vacation, DH is in a union and picks it once a year., you get what you get and thats all!

My mother works at an insurance office and she told me today that Allstate is already planning for an even worse hurricane season! We are booked for the first week in September! Yikes!

Way too early for them to even have a clue as to the when and where of the 2006 hurricane season.
We're going down last week in Sept. and right now, not even thinking about it. We've gone down in Sept. almost every year since 1975--and have heard these advance hurricane predictions before!!
A hurricane may strike when you go--and maybe not.

Let it blow! I'll be hunkered down at WL, and I'll be more than happy to eat at Whispering Canyon or Artist Point if I can't get to Le Cellier.

That being said, we go in September every year, and we've been flirting with hurricanes that whole time (we were on a cruise that was CHASING Hurricane Jeanne around the Carribbean...when we were going out to sea, she was coming in, then she circled around, let us have a great three days in the Bahamas and on sea, and then she followed us back to shore!)

Just go to some site like www.insuremytrip.com if you're worried about having to cancel. WDW, Universal, most airlines and car rental companies are very understanding about their cancellation policies and change policies when it comes to things like Cat. 4 storms!

We always go in September too...and have been blessed with the good fortune of missing the hurricanes thus far! Yup, it's always a gamble but since they can never accurately predict a path of a hurricane, I try not to worry about it. The last two years they predicted that a hurricane might hit central florida while we were there (both were predicted within a week of us going) and we got nothing more than a 10 minute downpour!

I wouldn't stress about it - you're going to Disney!! :thumbsup2 We were actually there for Hurricane Jeanne in Sept 2004 - it ended up adding a day to our trip - we were due to fly out the day the hurricane hit & we didn't have enough notice to fly home early.

The parks closed an hour or 2 early that Saturday & then everything was closed on Sunday. We actually had a relaxing day in the room on Sunday - they were showing many different Disney movies on multiple channels at the Resorts, we purchased a Disney boardgame the night before & had lots of munchies to snack on all day. :)

I wouldn't wish for another hurricane, but I also don't view my trip as ruined during Hurricane Jeanne. It was just something else exciting to scrapbook. ;) I think you're pretty safe on Disney property since you're pretty far inland in the Orlando area. :)

Hurricane season is one of the reasons DH didn't want to switch our Thanksgiving trip to August.

We cruised in 2005, and got stuck behind Hurricane Dennis in the Gulf... DH says NEVER AGAIN during hurricane season!

I was there too! :thumbsup2

Im happy I *was* there for a hurricane, cuz now I know - its not that bad, that far inland. So, Im going....rain or shine. :teeth:

I am a little worried to be honest but we're still going, LOL :thumbsup2

We were originally going the first week of July (just the start of the season)..but since we were getting the DP anyway and we are able to go during the free promotion, it is just too good to pass up! :woohoo:

For my family, it is a savings of $1059.65 (maybe even more because I read that ASMo may be going for value season rates during that time).

Nope! Not worried at all. We went last Sept during the free dining promotion and had a great time. The day before we were to come home a hurricane hit here in East Texas. We never have hurricanes in East Texas (just occasional rains from the ones that hit the coast). :earseek: If we had stayed home we'd been in a hurricane, instead we were in bright sunny Florida in the peak of hurricane season.

By the way we'll be there this Sept too.

Little apprehensive , we are going last week in Sept. We went last year for last week of August and were watching Katrina , and whichever one was before it . We got some rain 1 day but that was it, The thursday we were there I got a call from my friend who lives in slidell , La that they had been evacuated and were in Texas, so I worry about it but Orlando is pretty much inland. I survived Hugo when it came through Puerto Rico and rode one out here in Virginia so I think Iwill be ok. I will just make sure we have an extra flashlight on hand, and a board game or two in case we get stuck in the room . Now that would be a tragedy stuck in 2 rooms at the Pop with my 4 kids :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We were there last year during that time. We don't worry about it at all. We take our vacation when we can and have a BLAST!!!! I have enough to worry about while planning our trips ie... Did I pack eveything, did I make all the ADR's I wanted?, Did I remember to feed the animals(LOL...just kidding I do get housesitters for them!!!).

We are going over labor day week. I'm a little worried because I don't want my vacation ruined. Usually we stay at WL but have been Poly since our last visit. Now I'm thinkng of being confined to a room at Poly! WL is at all one building so at least you can go out about the hotel. Trying to think positive!!

We also booked in Sept.(14-24), we always go in Sept. and have had to postpone a trip in 2004 because of one of the hurricanes. It also made for a wonderfully empty park when we did go because Ivan was blowing up the west coast while we were there. We live in Florida though...so it's not really an issue for us because as long as we can get there, we'd rather be there(safer) than here anyway. :goodvibes But I did go ahead and get the travel insurance, just in case a hurricane is on top of us and we can't get there, or our house blows away and well, I guess some things are more important than Disney. If your afraid of having to cancel your trip and having the $200 dollar fee, then get the insurance. If a hurricane is during your trip, but not during arrival or departure, I'd say go for it. You're in the middle of the state, in a very safe place. Like I said, we'd feel safer there than here. We're only 30 miles from the west coast.

Sept. is a wonderful time to go. :goodvibes

Does the hurricane likelihood decrease the first week in October? My trip start on 9/30 and goes through 10/6.... :confused3

MyZoeJane: Nope. We had Wilma last year well into Oct..it was bad too. So Oct isnt any better than Sept. There just seem to be MORE in Sept.. at least in the past 2 years, before that my whole life there was only Andrew. :confused3

we will likely be going in the middle of the season this year and we will be camping in our pop up camper. am i worried, a bit, yes, but no more than i am anytime a camp. there is always the possiblity of some storm rolling in and causing wind or falling tree limb damage to our little square of heaven.

i just go with the belief that Disney will do thier best to keep us infomed. we will monitior the weather ourselves too and use our heads. if things look like they are going to get rough we can return to the campground and have that sucker cranked down and ready to take to the emergency parking lot in less than an hour. If anything happens to it there - that is what we have insurance for.

If one does hit, it likely will just take a day (slightly more or less) from your vacation. not ruin the entire time.

Honestly, yes I'm a bit worried.

But I live just off of the Alabama coast anyways... might as well hunker down at Disney instead of my basement!

The 'official' forecast for the season will not be out until June 1st. Most of the stuff I have read does NOT say it will be worse than last year. It is (for now) forecast to be less severe than last year, but more active than usualy. Follows *******i's bit about the 10 year cycle. 2005 was peak of the cycle, now we should begin to see decline...

In fact... *******i says this year is very likely going to get the NE the worst.

I'll just hope and pray and hope and pray...

:D

THAT is funny... the ******* word is the name of a meteorologist Joe B A S T A R D I. I'm NOT cursing, honest!
