What you'll do for your kids (even adult ones)

My oldest went skydiving many years ago. I found out after the fact. I got off work and listened to his voicemail. He was brave back then. It has been 14 plus years and he won't get on an airplane (I think due to an incident at work). We were all shocked he got on the Skyliner in April.

Have fun! Not brave enough here.

If it would somehow protect my kids in the moment, I'd do it - despite not ever being willing to do it otherwise.

I remember my biggest "mama bear" moment. My younger son was in jr high. My husband casually told me that son and a friend of his were in a nearby city going to a concert but neglected to mention that his friend's mother was with them. The city is across the water from us. My first impression was that he'd somehow let them take public transportation and just go. If I had been closer to the water, I would have dived in and started swimming - whatever it took, period. I remember this HUGE adrenaline rush and a need to do whatever possible to protect him. It was so strong I don't know that anyone could have stopped me. It took me a while to calm down, the feeling was just so strong.
DH thought I was nuts, he would never have let them do that at that point nor would the other parents, but I was so panicked in the moment and the feeling was so strong that I wasn't thinking.

So in an emergency, I'd do whatever it took. Just to spend time with them, I'd go according to what felt safe. Sky diving wouldn't make that list.

I went skydiving twice with my cousins. I really enjoyed it I hope you have a great time!

I also accidentally swam with sharks with the same cousins. I didn’t enjoy it, none of us did.

My older son turns 25 in a couple weeks. He's decided to take the week off from work and wanted to do some things he's always wanted to try but never had the time (or money) to do before. First up on his list - skydiving. He scheduled and booked a tandem jump for the day of his birthday and then asked if I wanted to go with him. It's been almost 30 years since the last time I've had the opportunity to try skydiving, but friends of mine were going a week before my wedding and my soon-to-be wife decided that was tempting fate just a little too much. ;) But, your son asks you if you want to do something with him, you go for it. :thumbsup2

Now I just hope he's not interested in shark diving or something like that... :rotfl2:
I think it's wonderful that you're going to do this with him! Such a great bonding experience that y'all will be able to tell his future kids. You're a good daddy.

I have an unhealthy fear of heights. despite this I have ridden twice in hot air balloons, adore helicopter rides and done several very high ziplines. skydiving? I tried the indoor type a few times but I have a bad shoulder and it was painful enough that i'm not willing to try it 'in the wild' no matter who invited me to join them.

There's a lot I will do for my daughter, but skydiving is on the nope list. As much as I hate heights, I'll do a lot of things involving heights and thrills, but the closest I'll come to skydiving is the indoor experiences, which we both did.

LOVED the time I did tandem skydiving (30 years ago), it still is one of my most memorable moments and I cannot say enough amazing things about it. The adrenaline, the amazing view, falling through a cloud etc. If my daughter asked me to join her I would be over the moon, and even if I was scared I would still do it because you do not know how many of these moments will come along to do stuff like this with them:)

It takes everything I've got to agree to ride Tower of Terror with them ONCE each trip to Disney (hate the falling sensation). I usually say no, but end up sucking it up and screaming my head off so they can laugh at mom screaming and her crazy hair.

Heaven help me if they ever ask me to jump out of plane. I mean, I did some crazy stuff during my military years, but..... You win all the parent awards. :worship:
