If Disney offers free dining this year, and if they offer only the quick service plan with the values, as some feel they will, can you then upgrade to the DDP for an extra fee? If so, how much to upgrade from quick service to DDP?

i believe when i booked my trip the CM said that it is $10 a day per person to upgrade from QSDP to regular DDP

Last year you were able to upgrade to the DDP at the values, and it was about $10/night for adults, and $2-3/kids 3-9. :thumbsup2

Free Dining for values is always quick service, EXCEPT on bounceback offers, where it is basic dining.

In any case, any free dining plan can be upgraded...

That's not true. I went last year in August(during free dining promotion)....got FREE regular dining plan and we stayed in All Star Movies....I know of many others that have done the same....

The first time Disney offered the QSDP for free at values was when they extended the FD offer PAST the normal mid-August to early October date range. It was the DDP for free until early October, and then QSDP for Oct-mid-December.

Sorry, that's incorrect. Free dining has been offered since September of 2005 and the general public offer has ALWAYS included the Basic Dining Plan - 1TS, 1CS and 1Snack per day, per person. The Quick Service Plan didn't even exist during the first few years that the Free Dining Promo was offered. Also, every year the free dining bounceback has been offered it has also been for the basic dining plan. This past October, November and December "free dining" offer was the first and only time the Free Dining Promo included the Quick Service Plan for Values.

I'm not TOO worried that values will not get free DDP. I think Disney will continue this yearly offer with the competition of the opening of Harry Potter and the closing of Toontown/Fantasyland expansion in the fall.

I think the offers people have recieved are a good indication of what is to come. I think this year QSDP will be offered for the values and regular DDP for the Mods and Deluxes.

Historically it's always basic dining in August-September, even for the regular general public offer, regardless of the level of the reservation.

There is some concern that the 2010 general public offer will be different, based on two things:

1) The second general public offer for 2009, for check-ins between September 27 and December 17, included the quick service dining plan for value resort reservations. 2009 was the only year free dining for the general public was ever offered past the first week of October.

2) Some of the PIN offers for free dining currently being issued include the quick service dining plan for value resort reservations.

So there's some thought that 2010 could be the year that they change the general public August-September offer, and make it quick service free for values. No way to know for sure until the deal is announced. Those planning to book a value resort on the general public offer for 2010, when and if it opens for booking, are probably well advised to plan for what they will do if they are offered the quick service dining plan free. The options are to accept the quick service plan, or upgrade it (or upgrade to a moderate resort). Upgrading to basic dining would cost $10 per night per adult and $2 per night per child (3-9). If you want to upgrade to deluxe from quick service, the cost would be $40 per night per adult and $11 per night per child.
