Can you use both a room (% off) offer & the free dining offer on the same trip? OR is it an either or type thing? And one more question. We're a family of three. Do you think the dining plan is worth it for a small family? We don't eat that much.

Same reservation, no. Same trip, only if you're doing a split stay and one part of your trip is with a room discount and another part of your trip is with a free dining promotion. That's what we're doing for our upcoming trip. Our stay in the cabin is with a room discount and our AoA stay is with free dining. They're one trip to me but they're separate reservations according to Disney.

Dang! Didn't really think so, but had to ask. Thank you.

that's why some posters put "free" dining in quotes. if you have to give up a room discount to get it...it's not exactly free...it's just a different type of discount.

We are also a family of three, DH and I usually eat once a day, and kiddo eats like crazy some days, other days she barely eats enough to keep a bird alive. Shes almost 9 now. Anyways, as they have said you can only use one type of discount, but we found that staying at the All Star Movies and upgrading to the regular dining plan was worth it for the three of us during free dining. You get the quick service free with all-stars, then pay the extra $7 or so dollars a day for adults and $3 for kids to be able to do the character meals and sit down full service restaraunt. We averaged about $100 per meal for the three of us, and that wasn't ordering the most expensive thing, that was just ordering like we usually do, and we can typically eat out for $25 or so for the three of us. I say take the free dining and upgrade, even if you dont eat much, the snacks and ability to do the character dining without shelling out $$$ for it is completly worth it in our opinion. We stayed for 6 days, 5 nights. Had we paid out of pocket for food we would have ended up with a food bill of over $1000!!! We saved our reciepts and totaled it up at the end. Instead we used one table service and one counter service per meal, using our dining plan snack credits for breakfast, and paid the extra on the room and didnt worry about it. We feel we got more than our moneys worth. I say go for the free dining!

WE usually stay at a deluxe resort though. Do you still think it would be better to do ddp instead of resort discount if staying at a deluxe resort? To be honest I get a little confused by the ddp.:confused3

Just FYI I think it's more like $15/ person / day for an adult to upgrade to the regular meal plan.

More than likely not. We sometimes add the dining plan anyway, so I just go on Disney's web site and go through the motions of booking with the free dining plan, with the discount, and with the discount and adding the dining plan. You will then have an actual price comparison that you can use to compare. When we have stayed deluxe, the % discount was much better - we even upgraded to the deluxe dining and still didn't reach the full price of the room. We had another time when there wasn't a choice - free dining was available for our entire stay while % discounts were not.

No. We are a family of 5 and most often the resort discount is better than free dining when staying deluxe. Although the resort discounts have been pretty stingy lately, so that might not necessarily be the case.

An easy way to figure it out would be to take the "per night" cost of the dining plan for your family and compare it to the amount of money you would save per night with a room discount.
