Free Dining Plan First Day! Updated Days 2,3,4 & 5 added!

Ooooo....Rose and Crown sounds great. Good to hear the grilled steak was good. I always wondered how that was being that R&C isn't a steak place. I think I want to try the bangers and mash. :goodvibes

Thanks for taking the time to let us know how it is going......
We Have an ADR for Rose and Crown also for about the same time..
Thanks for letting us know how the Servers are handling the Dining Plan.

Another Magical Disney Day on the Dining Plan Day 2!

We first went into Animal Kingdom and got our snacks - no problem. At noon we decided to eat lunch at the Flame Tree BarBQ. The lines were long and it was hot. Another option might have been to eat at Tusker House which is inside and air conditioned and you eat in air conditioning also - unlike Flame Tree. Anyway, we used all 3 counter services for lunch for me, husband and 17 year old son. We got the rib meal (comes with corn and baked beans) also drink and choice of chocolate cake or key lime pie or frozen lemonade for dessert. Also got smoked 1/2 chicken meal with same as above, and beef sandwich with same. If you ordered 2 of the other choices of chicken salad or fruit plate then you could also order a side item of fries, onion rings or cole slaw. The food was really good and the total came to about $40.

Dinner was scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Rose and Crown in Epcot. We were given a pager and were called about 8:30. I told the hostess that even though there were 3 of us, we were going to be using only 2 credits. She said that was fine - just tell the server. We were seated in the covered outside area and a strong breeze was blowing so it wasn't as hot as it could have been. We ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer, and the fruit and cheese plate appetizer. Both were plenty for the 3 of us. Our main courses were 2 of the steak and fish meals which comes with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was all really good and they also brought biscuits for the bread. Even using just 2 credits, it was too much for us to eat. Illuminations started at 9:00 and the server asked if she should postpone bringing anything to the table during the fireworks and we said no, to just bring it when it was ready. We could walk to a special viewing area for Illuminations which was wonderful. When dessert time came we asked the server if we could get it to go and she said that would be fine. She boxed up an apple crumble (minus the ice cream) and a citrus trifle. All in all, it was a nice outside meal. Total check was about $88.

30 Plus Trips in 30 Plus Years!

I will be eating at Rose and Crown too Thanks for the info on that!

Sounds like your having fun! :Pinkbounc

Than's for the reviews. Glad the free ddp is working out for you guys. Sounds like you are having a blast.

Sounds great! How are the crowds right now? Im very concerned about this.. I will be arriving with several newbies and my kids and DH next Fri.

Thanks for the review. Sounds wonderful. We have 2 "adult" children and I know the food quantity is just TOO much. It's great to know that we can share and not waste food just for the sake of the DDP.

Can't thank you enough for keeping us updated during your trip. It has helped me as we will be eating the same places so far that you have.

Thank you so much for sharing your live report. :thumbsup2

We went last year on the free dining and shared every meal (just too much food). We hoped to do that this time too (leaving in 11 days). I have been anxiously waiting to hear from someone there during free dining to see if sharing is still possible.

I'm so glad to hear it is and I'm so glad your trip is going well. Thanks again!!!

Help! We can't keep up with all this food! Never having gotten the dining plan before (except for when our in-laws paid for it about 20 years ago), we knew that the amount of food would be a challenge (since we're not the biggest of eaters - except for our teenager!)

Anyway, we got up still stuffed from the Rose and Crown last night finishing up at 9:30 p.m. Nobody wanted breakfast this morning so we decided to wing it. Got into the Magic Kingdom just after 9:00 a.m. Got slightly hungry for a snack so went to Mrs. Potts at about 11:00 and had a strawberry shortcake sundae and root beer float (used up another 2 snack credits). DH didn't want a snack but ended up getting a Columbia Harbour House lunch soon after using up a counter service credit. We now have 4 snack credits left total. The Columbia Harbor house wasn't too busy but this was early. We left MK and went into Downtown Disney where DS decided he could use a lunch so we went to Earl Of Sandwich. You are allowed to get a sandwich, fountain drink and a choice of cupcake, cookie or brownie. No side items included. I was slightly hungry but didn't want to use up a lunch so I (gasp) paid for potato salad which was about $1.35. The machine was down for using the credits and they wrote things down by hand - we actually hope it shows up as using a credit! We have 5 counter services left.

Dinner was the Spirit of Aloha dinner show. It was fine, but slightly hot. We got there early and posed for the picture not knowing that when they presented the pictures to you, they also asked for payment of $26! We chose not to get them. Also, there was a funny thing about the drinks - the server came up after dessert and said that there was 45 minutes more to the show, but this was last call for drinks including soda, water, etc. The traditional (hula) dancing was wonderful and the fire dancer was great. The entire show and dinner was about 2 hours long. We did use 6 dinner credits for the 3 of us and we have 2 dinner credits left.

For us, even splitting meals, we feel like we have more than enough credits left and hope to use them all up in the next 2 days. And to think that we considered paying cash for some snacks on the first day because we wanted to "save" our snack credits! Too many credits and not enough time!

Just as a note, we had ADRs for all of the dinners before we left home. I don't know how hard it is to get ADRs after arriving, however, on Main Street today, a sign said that they still had openings at Tonys, the Plaza, and Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch. It will be interesting to see what happens with the new "Entitlement Program" (please see my other post).

As to crowds, it's busy but we did walk on Jungle Cruise, and Aladdin's Carpets at about 9:00 p.m. tonight. The biggest line we have seen so far was for Soarin (90 minutes) and Turtle Talk with Crush had a big line in the Living Seas yesterday. The single rider line for Expedition Everest was a walk on Monday morning at about 10 a.m. Also, the first show of the day of Lights, Motors, Action car show was a walk-on at MGM.

Thanks for your updates...this is great! After all the months of speculation is nice to hear a first-hand report. Enjoy the rest of your trip! :sunny:

Thank you for posting your experiences with DDP. I'm really curious about the sundaes and floats at Mrs. Potts!! I didn't know you can get those with a snack credit! I haven't been reading any of the posts regarding the "snack lists" because we did the DDP last year. We were only able to get things like, water bottles, popcorn, etc. on it.

Now I'm going to read through all the posts on the snacks!! lol. My kids will love to get a rootbeer float!!

Mary
