Question,

If I booked a resort package that was just the room and dining plan because I am military and I can get the tickets cheaper with the military discount, would I still be eligible for the free dining plan? So basically I am paying just the discounted resort rate and then the discounted tickets?

Thanks

For "free" dining you must pay full rack rate (no discount) for your room and purchase at least a two-day MYW ticket for each member of your party at gate price. Disney does not allow stacking of discounts.

There's no exceptions for free dining. Everyone booking free dining has to pay rack rate for the room and purchase at least 2 day base MYW tickets for each party member. No discounts on the room or the tickets.

Normally, there is an exception for military members. If you book a room only reservation at a Disney Resort for a member of active military or retired military (must have military ID) using the military discount for the room, you can add the dining plan WITHOUT buying tickets.

However, this promotion of "free dining" specifically states that the guest must purchase a non-discounted room & MYW tickets.

I just did this very thing with a dining plan and no need for tickets (no Free Dining) - go over to Shades Of Green with the Mil Member or Mil Members Spouse with your ID and you can get the tickets discounted and no tax. Doesn't get much better than that. or you can buy them at the gate discounted but you will pay tax.

I sure miss the old Mil discount though, where my ticket was free and a 4 day pass was $99ea and the Resort Room was $40% off. Took advantage of that one three different times with the Family after Deployments.

You can buy a 4 day salute package for about $156.00 before 28, Sept. 2013 Do not buy the regular military ticket. You can still get the 40% off your room if you book at the right time. We always compare the military discounts to AP discounts and we go with the cheaper of the two.

I read the sticky about tickets and didn't see it addressed to military. Is this possible.

Book FD package paying rack rate and 2 day no hopper tickets.
Can you then upgrade the 2 day no hopper tickets to Military Salute tickets with Hopper and Water Park options?

If I looked at the numbers correctly, a 2 day no hopper ticket is $176 + tax
The Military Salute w/Hopper & Water Park is $184 + tax.

Can I pay the $8 difference plus applicable taxes and convert to Military Salute?

If so do you need to use the 2 day ticket 1st and convert at Guest Services inside the park or does it matter?

Actually the std Military Discount baring any specials on Resort Rooms are

30% Value
35% Moderate
40% Deluxe

and yes $156 on the 4 day Salute.

I've always stayed in Moderates but I'm only stay'n 3 days to get the Daughter there for the Disney College Program and doing this on the Cheap so we can still afford a Family Vacation later to come back down and see her later. I ended up with 30% off at POP Century for a Std room for 3 nights and 2 Adult Quick Service Meal Plan was $515 total.

Hopefully when we come back to see her we'll use her CM Discount and bump up to a Deluxe for the first time:cool1:

I have the same questions. It comes out slightly cheaper for us to use the free dining promo and then upgrade the 2 day tickets to the AFS tickets. I would like to be sure that we can do that and also whether we need to use them first or upgrade first? Thanks!

Yes to all. The tickets must first be used, then they can be upgraded to the AFS with both hopping and WPF&M. The correct price is $8 (plus tax) for adults, $20.00 (plus tax) for children since there is no price difference between adult and child on the AFS tickets.

Someone asked in the big official thread in this forum, the answer is on the last page or two. :goodvibes

I'm not sure how the ticket price increases will affect this. The 2 day ticket is now the same price as the AFS. Will the upgrade still be allowed?

The two day adult base is now the same price as the AFS with both hopping and WPF&M. This would be considered an even exchange and should work. I know I would process the transaction with no problem.
