Free Dining and Tickets

I am pretty sure this is true but just wanted to be sure. My brother is thinking of upgrading his tickets park hoppers and water park and more, but is unsure just yet if they want to. With our 45 day mark coming up I told him we needed to make any changes before that date came. I told him that he can just keep his tickets for the package at two day tickets until we get there and then he can upgrade them to however many days and add park hopping and water park then. I just want to make sure that I am telling him the right information? So the basic question is what is the minimum ticket you have to have in order to get free dining?

2 day base ticket is the min. for FD. We are staying 14 days with FD, and still only needed 2 day.

If his tickets were bought(or package was booked) prior to June 3, 2012, he needs to use the ticket at a park before doing any upgrades. This will make his ticket equal to the current gate price. If he does not use it first, he will have to pay the upgrade cost PLUS the price increase amount.

However, if the free dining was later added to an existing package after June 3, his tickets may already reflect the new rates, so then he can do it without using the ticket first.

That is very insightful, Thank You so much! We actually booked in March so I will let him know that! I know our arrival day we plan on going to Hollywood Studios. So on arrival we should use his ticket to get into Hollywood Studios then take the tickets to guest services to upgrade?
