Free DDP trip: BC or BCV's? (DH 1st onsite trip)

I'd be very grateful for any advice. I originally booked our Sept. trip that first weekend for Disney Visa holders only. At the time, only the BCV (studio) was available. My DH really wanted BC (based on my DIS research! :) ) so I took this thinking 1) we would still get to enjoy SAB and 2) will have a guaranteed balcony or patio. But now I'm second guessing my decision... :confused3

If a BC room is available for FD, should I switch? What are the odds I could get a king room? (It's just the two of us.) And the balcony isn't that important, is it? We'll probably be out quickly in the mornings and back (even if we break during the day) way past Illuminations...you know, adult late.

And for those who know, is there any chance of an upgraded view at check in? I certainly wouldn't count on it, but at least its a possiblity at the BC, but not really at the BCV's. Thoughts?

(I really want my DH to love it - the whole experience - so much we can come back every year...and maybe look into the DVC!)

if it is just you 2. then stick with the studio

you have a queen bed and a double sleeper sofa.

in a regular BC room it would be 2 queen beds.

you might get upgrade. Only DVC member generally don't.

they have been know to upgrade renters to a 1-bedroom. It has a king bed, whirlpool tub, washer/dryer, full kitchen.

I'd switch to the BC and request a king. I prefer the BC rooms to the Villas studios. And yes, if you book a standard view room at the BC, there is a chance you could get an upgrade ... depends on the numbers. If a king bed is what you want, you won't get it in a studio at the Villas. Just make sure if you switch to the BC, you put the king bed as your request.

I would think the layour of the BCV rooms would be better for a couple with just one bed and a pull out couch. I think the microwave would be a benefit as well. Also, being guaranteed a real balcony would tip me over the edge to BCV.

You could request a king bed at the resort, but I don't think it is guaranteed, nor is any type of free upgrade.

JMHO,
Denise

I guess what it comes down to is that it's not the hotels that are going to make your husband love Disney :) While I guess it's possible, I dont' think many people go back year after year just for the hotel. I agree that it would be a nice perk to get the microwave and fridge with the studio, but for me it has always unfortunately come down to cost. Last year we stayed at a value but were able to do extra things like go see La Nouba, rent a car, and go to MNSSHP. We could have done something more expensive, but with less extras. Plus, we were barely even in our room! So, if the room is what's important to you, then stick with the fancy stuff. If you're not planning to be in the room much and would rather have a bit of extra spending money for other things, BC should be fine. I've never stayed there but from what I understand it's still a very nice hotel. I hope to stay there one year so I can see the famous SAB!
