I am looking for something interesting to do within 90 miles or so of Anaheim for Labor Day. Any ideas for something nature oriented or historic for two teens and a mom? I would prefer an activity that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, because I've already used up a couple of limbs worth for our upcoming trip. :rotfl2:

BTW, we've already done/will do SeaWorld, Legoland, SD Zoo, SD Safari Park, USS Midway, Cabrillo NM, La Brea Tar Pits, Natural History Mus. of LA, Reagan & Nixon Pres. Libraries, San Juan Capistrano, DL & CA (of course), Balboa Park, & Old Town SD.

TIA, Zbugz:goodvibes

Are you doing the the Museum of Man, Natural History Museum, or the Air & Space Museum at Balboa park or just wandering around the the park itself? How about the San Diego Mission? There is also the San Gabriel Arcangel mission (9 miles east of downtown LA). How about Olvera Street? It is the oldest part of downtown LA and has a Mexican marketplace. DM says its been a while since she was there so she doesn't know what the atmosphere is like now, but it might be something to look into. You could also going to one of the tourmaline mines in Pala and search for some gems. Gems of Pala is one of the places that comes to mind offering you the chance to buy a bucket of fill from the mine and you get to go through it and keep whatever you find. I think there are other places as well; Google Pala tourmaline mines and see what you come up with.

HTH!!!!!

Oooh, this is exactly the kind of stuff I am looking for. Thanks much! I do plan to take in a few museums in Balboa Park. The Air & Space one sounds especially interesting for my son. I will check out the mine, missions and marketplace, too. :)

The Aquarium of the Pacific is very good. Sometimes they have boat excursions to the breakwaters that are very interesting.

Whale watching from Dana Point was really good. Saw dolphins, seals and a couple whales. Found coupons online that made it very inexpensive.

We went whale watching in the morning, beach for the afternoon then to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor in Brea just north of Disneyland. Perfect day!

Very good ideas, thanks! Dolphins, seals, whales & aquarium all sound good. I forgot about Farrell's.

Oh my gosh. This is great. We are taking our daughter for her grad trip next summer and were looking for new things to go see besides, of course, DL and SeaWorld. Thank you so much!
