Does anyone have a link to a site or something that I could use that's free to put a cook book together for a Christmas gift?

For those who made a cookbook, did you just email it to Staples or someplace to print and have bound? How much did it run you in the end?? I emailed DH's family to ask for their favorite recipies to include and of course I'll make copies for everyone as a surprise. I'm guessing it'll be cheaper to make 8-10 copies instead of the 1 that I need for a gift???

Thanks!

here is one from microsoft:

Here's an example, on the kodak website:

A friend of mine says she used picaboo

http://www.picaboo.com

I personally took the template from the kodak link, then I edited it. I made it so the table of contents updated on it's own, that the index would also update. I added some page breaks, to divide it all up. I slightly changed the format of the pages. I have not printed out a copy of mine yet. I plan on making it a work in progress. By the time my boys are ready to leave the house, it will be filled with all of their favorite recipes. I do plan on making a working copy for us to use around the house though.

good luck!

Bumping this thread. I remember a site that had 3 free templates for a certain magazines readers (American Baby, Parents, Family Fun, Baby Talk...not sure which one as it was a year ago). I too would love to find a site that offers free templates.

What a great idea for when the kids move out of the house! Right now my boys would only have Kraft mac and cheese and hot dogs! :lmao:

Actually, I did this with my grandmother for all the families within our family for Xmas. I just made my own template that would fit on recipe cards even putting a space at the bottom where we put quotes from people within the family about that specific recipe. I then typed all the recipes into that template. We gathered favorite family recipes from each person in the family, told a little about where the recipe came from, traditions with it etc. We scanned in the handwritten recipes of most used recipes and included those, as well as pics of each person that submitted a recipe and family history pics and put them all in one of those photo albums with the space next to each picture space to write something. This way each person could write their own notes next to a recipe. I got the photo books on clearance at Kohls for like $3 last year and they said FAMILY on the front. I had the recipes copied at a printer (about 350 copies, and pics) and I think it cost about $87. Mostly it cost time!

This is a great idea!! I'd love to do this for my now adult nieces!!!

I'd do a photobook so you can create one and have multiple copies made. You can go cheap (paper) or more expensive (hardback cover). Check out places like shutterfly, creative memories, etc.

Another option is to get a desk type photo album that stand up so the recipe could be "on display" while the person is making the recipe and easier to use/read. You usually just have to slide the recipe card into the plastic sleeve. These also can be as cheap as a $1 at Target or as much as $20 on up at places like Aaron Brothers and Creative Memories.

Check out the creative community (esp. the scrapbooking forum) on this Dis for some sources for free digital templates.
