I know in 2011 they offered free admission to marathon finishers who showed their metal in the parks on Monday, any idea if they have done this since or are planning on it in January 2014?

I don't believe they have done it since - definitely did not do it in 2013 as I ran the marathon. I don't think they are planning to do it again, from what I have seen.

I read somewhere there was a discounted admission for marathon Sunday? Is that true?

I'm not sure about special discount admission for Marathon Sunday in particular. But there are specially prices tickets for the weekend. When I did Disneyland, I got my tickets from WWW.gettravel.com . They are one of the RunDisney Travel Partners. They have tickets from Marathon Weekend but don't have prices online. They require a phone call. You can also check in your registration e-mail for ticket information.

The other races often offer discount tickets, but I don't believe they do it for marathon weekend.

I believe they did it in 2011 as an experiment to see if the free admission made enough runners extend their trip to offset the lost gate revenue. It worked for us as we still arrived on the date we would have anyway but stayed until Tuesday morning instead of flying home Monday as planned.

I suspect that their data showed that not enough people did that to justify the perk.

It was offered in 2011 to see if they could sell out the marathon and it worked! Within a week of announcing Marathon Monday, it sold out but it was really late in the year. Possibly even November.

No free park admission in 2012 or 2013...not sure about the discounts as I had an AP both years. :)

I have heard of discounts on passes, but not through runD. The discounts we see at the other races was an effort to fill those races and hard to cancel once issued.

I would love to look at the books to see how well the free Monday worked. I think it probably was a huge money loser for Disney on multiple fronts.

1- most folks I know did not extend to take advantage of the offer so no additional revenue.

2- most folks who were not AP's simply did not purchase a pass for Monday - los of revenue

3- every half runner I spoke with was PO'd so there is presumably a cost increase associated with manning the feedback channel.
