Ok so this past weekend was a busy one including DBF and I doing the Frederick Half Marathon.

Parking, bag check and pre-race all went smoothly. Post-race Celebration area was great. It was a two-beer allowance. WOohoo!

Anyhow, DBF and I barely trained for this race. It seemed like something was always preventing us from doing our long runs consistently and for the past few weeks I was forbidden from running at all. We were warned about the big hill at the very end of the race but we were surprised at how long and how steep it was. The rest of the course seemed extremely hilly too. It felt like every incline in the county they put on this course. They weren't all long, or steep, there were just A LOT of them. It was awful! I train in my neighborhood which has some inclines but I was unprepared for the amount of them in the half marathon.

Course support was ehhhh. I think they had a water stop every two miles or so. By the time I got to them two of them were out of water. I had my first GU - chocolate fusion(?) which was awesome! There was no cheer squads, bands, etc. It was pretty quiet along the way. The best part was going through the neighborhoods. They had food to offer, sprinklers, bathrooms, etc. One guy even had a bacon stop! :thumbsup2

I do not plan on doing the Frederick Half again. I will volunteer for course support and be involved in someway but I won't do the actual race again. They did have a cool medal and an awesome black/red zip up shirt as the race premium.

I passed 2 people on the stretch to the finish line to come in 3rd from last (of the finishers - 200 didn't finish at all). Now with all that being said, somehow DBF and I both beat our Disney times by 5 minutes. Yay for PRs!

Post-race is where the lack of training is most evident. We are both so sore it is unbelievable. In WDW we did the parks for 3 days, the half then more parks and weren't even close to as sore as we are now. My calves feel like they are going to rip apart and I think I have a shin splint in my right leg. Remarkably, my back isn't hurting at all. Go figure!

Congratulation on the PR. Sorry to hear about the water stop problem. I will admit that's been one of my fears. I bring water along just in case. As far as bands and stuff, a lot of smaller events just don't have the budget to do it. Keep up the good work.
