The cast:

Me - 33 going on 80, feeling rough
Gary - 40, also feeling under the weather
Christine - 41, looking rough
Mark - 40+, looking remarkably chipper actually but apparently still feeling rough

If you're not sure why we are all feeling like this then you've missed an episode - go back and read 'The One With all the Alcohol' :rotfl:

Woke up feeling pretty rough at about 8 am. Got out of bed to go to the bathroom and trod in a pile of broken crisps – hmmm, something tells me I may have been a bit peckish when I came in this morning! I went out on the balcony to see if there was any sign of life next door – and found Mark, looking remarkably chipper. Christine was still asleep though. We chatted for a little while and then I decided (or my thumping head did) that perhaps I needed another little lie down. I got back into bed and lay there, trying to decide if I was going to be sick. Eventually, I must have dozed off again because next thing I knew, it was almost 10 o’clock.

I decided that a shower might make me feel better – it didn’t. Neither did 2 paracetamol plus or several cans of diet coke (which usually does the trick). Christine phoned to say she was awake and starving! Her and Mark were going in search of food. Gary and I were off to the Contemporary for his second attempt at parasailing at 1 o’clock so I told her we’d probably just get something over there. At 11, Gary was up and dressed too - just in time as engineering turned up shortly after. Deep joy – they had a massive machine with them that looked like it was capable of making lots of noise. Thinking it might be a good time to make a hasty exit as I was still feeling a little bit fragile, we decided to go over to the Contemporary a bit early and get some lunch, before Gary’s parasailing. It was very chilly again this morning but, for some reason, I was not sensible enough to put trousers on. I was definitely not functioning on all four cylinders today.

On the way out, we knocked at Christine and Mark’s door to see whether they were still there. They were and decided they would come with us as Christine didn’t really know what she wanted to eat anyway. We were all having ‘one of those mornings’ to be honest. There was a little bit of griping and whinging going on and it was a good job we didn’t get lost on the way to the Contemporary as I fear we may have lost one or more of our passengers!

At the CR, we parked up and went into the food court to get something to eat.

Mark – Burger and fries (8 out of 10)
Christine – Chicken strips and fries (7 out of 10)
Gary – Hot dog and fries (6 out of 10)
Me – Chicken melt and fries (No score - I’m sure it was very nice but I didn’t eat more than a mouthful)

This is when I knew I really was ill. There has never been a time in my life that I can recall (apart from the great stomach bug of ’99) when I have not been able to eat. To be unable to face food is unheard of for me – and it was not an experience I am in a rush to repeat. I even have a picture of my meal but I can’t post it because just looking at it now reminds me of how ill I was that day and I can’t bear to even look at it.

Anyway, on to better things. After we left the food court, Gary and I headed outside to the marina and Mark and Christine went upstairs to check out the shops. It was absolutely freezing – luckily, Mark had lent Gary a fleece and I’d had the foresight to wear a cardigan (not that it helped much with my cold legs). The guy at Sammy Duvall’s said they would be going up today and so Gary signed all the necessary paperwork. The plan had always been for me to go along on the boat with them, so I could take photographs but I’m ashamed to say there was absolutely no way I was leaving dry land feeling the way I did. So I stayed behind on the marina while they went off on the boat. I waved goodbye and got the video camera out to film the experience. Gary was the first to go up (there was another couple on the boat, who were doing a tandem ‘flight’) and I managed to get some good footage of it. He went up to 600 feet and, believe me, it looked really high from where I was. He seemed to be up for ages and all I could think was ‘I bet he’s cold’. After about 10 minutes, he was lowered down and the tandem couple went up. At that point, I decided to go inside and wait as I was so cold. As I was about to go back, Mark was just coming out to watch. We stood watching for a couple of minutes, then went back in to find Christine. I decided to go up to the shop for a look around and bought Sian a necklace and earring set and some scrapbooking bits for me. That made me feel a bit better!

I went downstairs to the lobby and found Gary, Mark and Christine watching the kids Disney movies. We sat and chatted for a bit – none of us had the energy or the inclination to go back out into the cold. Gary had really enjoyed his flight, although he did say it was really cold on the boat – not so much up in the air. He’d had a really good view of Magic Kingdom and the surrounding area and he said he would love to come back and do it again – maybe when he wasn’t hung over!

We set off back to the Boardwalk Villas, where the plan was to have an afternoon nap (yes, wasting more valuable drinking time Matt!) before going out to see La Nouba tonight. Unfortunately, for us, the plumbers (all 3 of them) were still in our room and the machine was still being noisy. We quickly realised we weren’t going to get much rest. Not only that but it was actually quite awkward trying to relax in the room while they were there. After a few minutes, I told Gary I was going down to the front desk to see if they could move us to a room nearby – we figured then we wouldn’t have to pack, just do a couple of trips down to the new room with our stuff. Unfortunately, there were only 2 more rooms available and neither were suitable (both as far away from our current location as we could possibly get). The guy at the front desk, Jesse, was really helpful but, in the end, we decided we would stay where we were. I went back up to the room, where they were really getting stuck in now. There was a disgusting smell now and loads of black sludge all over the cupboard, the work surface and the floor. The phone rang and it was Bobby, our DVC guide. We had left him a message the other day, saying we wouldn’t be coming back to see him this morning as we’d decided we couldn’t quite afford to sign up right now. Bobby talked us through some more financing options over the phone and, as a result, we made arrangements to go in on Saturday morning to talk it over.

Next, we had a visitor. Jesse had come up from the front desk to give us another option for an alternative room. We told him we’d resigned ourselves to staying where we were and the plumbers had said they would go off and give us some peace, then come back while we were out later – to be honest, we were checking out in the morning anyway so we were past being bothered by now. Jesse said he would send housekeeping up to clean up a bit later and spray some air freshener for us. He also offered a credit of $100 on our bill to apologise for the inconvenience. Very kind, very Disney!

It was now 4 o’clock – the plumbers packed up and went and I decided to have a shower to try and warm up a bit. At least I was feeling a bit better by now. We both got showered and changed, then collected Mark and Christine and headed over to Downtown Disney. We parked near Pleasure Island, then walked down to Cirque du Soleil and went in. The show was absolutely amazing – I honestly couldn’t begin to describe it but it really was excellent. My only (minor) complaint would be that there was such a lot going on at times that I kept feeling like I’d missed something – it was quite hard to keep up with what was going on. That is definitely only a minor thing, though, and the brilliance of the performers more than made up for it. Very, very enjoyable and one of the best nights out we’ve had in Orlando.

After the show, we walked up to Raglan Road, where we had an ADR for 8.15. We were a bit early but checked in anyway and found seats at the bar, where we got 4 diet cokes – no alcohol for us tonight! Unfortunately, nearly an hour later, we are still waiting for our beeper to go off so I find a member of staff and ask how much longer we might be waiting. It appears they have already tried to beep us although I know for a fact it didn’t go off. Anyway, they will find us a table straight away – 15 minutes later, we are still waiting. Again, I enquire and again I am told they have been looking for us. Finally, we are seated at 9 o’clock. We have already decided what we want as we’ve had plenty of time to peruse the menu so we order straight away, much to the surprise of our server, who was prepared to disappear as soon as he’d introduced himself and taken our drinks order.

We order two starters – the Dalkey Duo (battered cocktail sausages), which Gary, Mark and I share and some sort of salad with seared steak and a horseradish dressing for Christine.

Then, entrees as follows:

Mark – Sausage and mash (10 out of 10)
Christine – Shepherds Pie (didn’t eat much of it – she said it didn’t taste very nice)

Gary – Sausage and mash (9 out of 10)
Me – Fish and chips (8 out of 10 – should have been 10 but I was still feeling a bit rough and probably didn’t appreciate the true quality)

We didn’t bother with dessert – to be honest, we were all quite tired now and needed an early night. We decided to use our room key to pay, as we had the $100 credit on our bill. The check came to $108 but, when they took it away with our room key, to charge it to our room, the check came back and they’d taken the DVC discount off – the server must have seen DVC member on my room key and automatically given us the discount. We made the charge against the room up to $100 and left an extra $10 in cash as a tip, then we went back to the car and back to BWV.

We didn’t even go into the bar tonight, which was a real shame as it was our last night, but none of us had the energy. So it was straight up to our rooms, to get packed ready to leave tomorrow. How terrible that we have one night on the booze and end up suffering the whole day after. I really need more practice!!!

Sorry about the lack of photos and humour today – there wasn’t a lot to laugh at really and any pictures of us taken today would not have been pretty. I am sure the thought of me suffering like I did was enough to give some of you a laugh though!

Sorry to hear you were poorly on your last day. It seems to have gone so quickly

I thought it seemed to have flown by! I know it always feels like that when you are actually away but was surprised that I was feeling like that just reading the reports. All makes sense now.

Oh dear, nasty hangovers, think you all did very well under the circumstances - I wouldn't be able to stomach parasailing without a hangover!
