Day 4 23 Sep 05 MGM Studios and a good laugh!
I slept through the whole night. I couldnt believe how well I slept. I think it definitely helped, having the thermostat-controlled air conditioning. Normally, we have to turn the air con off as I cant sleep with the noise and then we both are awake in the night cos were too hot. Anyway, I digress .on to the report.
Today, we had planned to go to MGM and Epcot but plans are made to be changed and, after doing Soarin last night, we both agreed we didnt have the energy or the inclination for Epcot today. The only problem was that our shuttle bus back to the hotel was picking us up from Epcot at 10 pm. We decided, however, that we would push the boat out and get a cab back to the hotel after our day at MGM.
Plans finalised, we packed up our overnight bag and said goodbye to our room at Pop. We checked out at reception and I was stupidly pleased to be told we could keep our room keys. We caught the bus to MGM and got there around 9:30.
Again, we rented a locker and deposited our bag, then it was straight over to Tower of Terror one of our favourite rides. We rode this three times and were convinced that not only was each drop sequence different, they had also changed from the previous year although Im not sure if this is true or whether wed just forgotten how good it is. After this, it was time for another favourite Rock n Roller Coaster again, we rode it 3 times and it was absolutely brilliant. Twice, while queuing for this ride we had teenagers blatantly pushing in front of us but both times we were rewarded when, for some reason or another, they got held up and we ended up on the ride before them. The second time DH couldnt resist a quick wave as we were pulling away.
Next, I wanted to see The Little Mermaid but, as it was a 25 minute wait until the next show, we decided we would come back later. So it was off to the Backlot Tour. On the way, we saw JoJo and Goliath so I couldnt resist having a picture with them (for DS benefit, of course).
We both really enjoyed the Backlot Tour it was really entertaining and I loved Catastrophe Canyon, even though I was sitting on the wrong side of the tram. After the Backlot Tour finished, we realised we were just in time for Lights, Motors, Action so off we went. We managed to get quite a good seat, near the front, but I wasnt particularly impressed with the show (apart from the finale). Just my opinion but, for me, it was ruined when they show you how the backwards stunts are done. DH really enjoyed it, though, so maybe I was just being picky.
From LMA, we decided to go and get something to eat. We ended up at Rosies All-American café where DH had a cheeseburger meal and I had a chicken tenders meal. Then, we crossed right back over the park to catch Muppet Vision, another great 3D show. We saw Woody here and one of the soldiers from Toy Story, who was really funny he was stood really still but every so often he would dive behind a bush, then peer out from the side. We were in stitches just watching him. After this, we wandered around and came across the Singing in the rain umbrella so I had a picture taken here as well.
We headed back towards Tower of Terror and saw that The Little Mermaid was about to start so in we went. I really enjoyed this but DH thought it was a bit twee. Im glad I saw it though. We went and got a Fastpass for ToT (even though DH was questioning the logic of getting a FP when the standby line was only 30 minutes) and then rode RNRC again. Back onto TOT and I couldnt help feeling a bit smug as we strolled right past the huge queue of people and more or less straight onto the ride.
Strolling down Hollywood Boulevard, we spent some time in Villains in Vogue (but no money, to DHs relief dont worry, I make up for it later) and then stopped outside to watch a group of street entertainers, who I later found out were called Streetmosphere. They were all telling jokes (along the theme of 99 gascans/octopuses/pencils walked into a bar). They were absolutely hilarious and we ended up watching the whole show. If you ever get a chance to see them, you must do it not only do you get to stop and have a rest but they really are hugely entertaining.
Having decided wed had enough, we headed for the exit, stopping to buy DS a box of Mr Potato Head parts. We also bought some other bits and pieces for various family members (kiss goodbye to another $100 TC), retrieved our bag from the locker and left the park to get a cab back to the hotel. While crossing the transport area to where the cabs were, we got absolutely drenched when the heavens opened. We found a cab, jumped in and were back at the hotel by 5 pm. I had a bath to warm up while DH had a nap. Then we lay on the bed and watched telly for a while.
At 7, we decided we were both hungry and started discussing where to eat. Its Friday, DH says, so where better to go than TGI Fridays. Cant remember what I had here (suspect it was probably something with chicken) but DH had ribs. For dessert, DH had cinnabon cheesecake (it was yummy) and I had Oreo Cookie Madness. We wandered back to the hotel, feeling absolutely stuffed, and played cards for a while, before falling asleep.
I dream of exploding lorries and car crashes.
