Day 9 Part 1 – Could it be Magic – Tuesday 17th October

Cast:

Me – Joh, 33 – The only one with a ‘costume’ – I’m a Dalmatian, honest!!!
DH – Gary, 39 – Bah pumpkins!!!
DD1 – Sian, 13 – Doesn’t want a costume ‘cos she’s got a great new skirt she wants to wear
DD2 – Rea, 12 – Gutted because she can’t find a princess dress to fit her

Today was the day we had all been looking forward to – Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. I was up and about early, as usual, and sat outside reading my book and smoking at 5:30. I have to give a massive thanks here to Sue (again) for the loan of the Torey Hayden books – I was glued to them every spare minute and have since bought and read loads more of hers. They are excellent!

Anyway, on with the show! We were catching the 7:05 shuttle so I roused the troops just after 6:00 and we were ready to go just before 7. The taxi dropped us at the TTC and we walked up the ramp to catch the monorail. As there was hardly anyone around, I asked if we could ride up front and, fantastically, the answer was yes. Another first for us and the girls were really thrilled at the thought of riding with the driver. It was a great way for the girls to arrive for their first visit to Magic Kingdom. Our driver was really lovely and gave the girls co-pilot licences and some little trivia cards when we disembarked.

We went straight up to the entrance where there was a small line of people waiting to enter for their ADRs. We were let in just before 8 and went straight to get a locker to store our overnight bags. From there, we wandered up Main Street, taking advantage of a virtually empty MK, and making sure we got loads of pictures.

We checked in at Crystal Palace and waited a few minutes before we were called in to our table. Our waitress was Laurie and she was really helpful, explaining what would happen with the characters and keeping us topped up with plenty of juice and tea for DH.

We went straight up to the buffet and helped ourselves. The choice was great and I was determined to try a few of the more ‘unusual’ offerings such as breakfast pizza and breakfast lasagne (both of which were disgusting). Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger all visited our table.

Piglet was standing at the entrance so the girls went up to see him too.

We ate and ate until we couldn’t possibly fit any more food in.

By the end of the meal, we all had our firm favourites:- Sian - Raspberry Crumb Cake, Rea – chocolate croissants, Gary – croissants and mine was, without a doubt, the puffed French toast with cinnamon sugar. I had about 6 pieces – definitely no good for the diet but tasted gorgeous.

We paid the check ($95 inc tip) – quite excessive for breakfast but we wouldn’t need to eat again until tonight, I reckoned. It was just after 9 so we headed round to Frontierland, where we joined the line to ride Splash Mountain. I was surprised to see that DD2 had decided to wait with us but didn’t say anything. We walked straight through to the loading area and, believe it or not, she actually got in the log. I was absolutely amazed. Turning around, I said to her ‘You know this has got a drop, don’t you?’ ‘Yeh, I know Mum’ with an exasperated look. O-kay!!! Splash was great and we all really enjoyed it – yes, even Rea who wanted to go straight on again. Although we really wanted to go on Big Thunder, I didn’t want to lose the momentum so off we went again. And, she even managed to keep her eyes open this time. I was too tight to buy the ride photo (and it really wasn’t that great) so I filmed it on the camcorder instead. I did buy Rea a Splash Mountain pin though, which she loved.

After that, it was off to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and, once again, DD2 decided to join us. And, once again, she loved it. I think we had finally found a park to suit her.

We went round to Haunted Mansion, which was great and the girls really enjoyed it. Then it was on to our favourite, Mickey’s Philharmagic – this 3D show can’t be beaten, as far as I’m concerned and I will never tire of that lovely apple pie smell.

We continued on round the park and DD2 was brave enough to try everything, even It’s a Small World ;)

After our tour of the psychotic dolls, we headed for Tomorrowland, where Rea discovered she loved Space Mountain and Buzz. We had several goes on Buzz, all determined to try and beat Gary’s flukey scores!

Soon, it was time to leave and head over to All Star Movies but not before stopping at Main Street Bakery for an ice-cream sandwich – yum.

We collected our overnight bags and caught the bus to ASMo, where we checked in easily and were delighted to discover we had a room in one of the Dalmatians buildings. On entering our room, we discovered the Mousekeeper had kindly left us a towel Mickey head.

DH decided to have a lie down while the girls and I went out to explore. First, the girls made their debut on Dalmation TV.

Then we found Andy’s room.

And Donald and Daisy.

We went back to the room via the shop, where I bought some diet cokes and DD2 gazed longingly at princess dresses that were far too small.

Time for a quick shower and change and it was almost time to leave again, back to Magic Kingdom for an ADR at the Plaza, another Dibb meet (with Lynn and family) and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

At the last minute, DD2 decided she wanted a Halloween tee-shirt so ran over to the shop with DD1 to try and find one. We had previously put a credit card against each of the girls’ room keys so they wouldn’t have to keep asking us for drinks later on at the party. They were sent off with a warning to buy one tee-shirt each (if they both wanted one) and nothing more.

They returned a few minutes later and DD2 was happy with a black shirt with Mickey and Pals on the front and the words ‘Give us Candy…or else!’ She did a quick change and then we left to catch the bus back to MK (continued in Part 2).

I enjoyed your report, and you fitted a lot in and the day's not over yet.

I seem to remember I loved the sweet Breakfast Lasagne, what has happened to it? Not too sweet and plenty of fruit as I remember. That's why buffets are good, everyone finds something they love!

Already a really exciting day, Joh, and you haven't even been to MNSSHP yet! I really want to go to Crystal Palace this year. So pleased that Rea could find some rides to enjoy.
