Ok please someone calm me down. We are leaving next Thursday to head to Disney via Delta and the family whom we are traveling with, one of thier kids has the puke bug. I'm assuming its gonna run thru their whole family and then they'll pass it to us next week. How am I gonna deal if there are sick puking people on the plane? How will we enjoy our vacation if someone is stuck in the room sick? My cleaning lady had it last week and she said it lasted for 5 days. Thats too long! Whatever happened to the 24 hour bug???
Thanks for letting me vent.

So sorry...I hope those that are ill feel better soon! If you avoid contact now you may be OK.

OTOH...I would surely hope that people are responsible enough not to travel when they know they have communicable diseases :confused3 ...especially when traveling via air (such a tight space!) and via a flight that is most likely to have a higher percentage than normal of families/children (considering the destination).

I agree. If the airline sees that this family is extremely ill, they may deny them boarding. If they are violently ill, they shouldn't be travelling period. I've been sick on vacation and it is no fun at all. I've picked up several bugs at WDW over the years. Just try to take your vitamins, use some immunity boosting medication and keep your hands clean. Don't touch your face. This is going to sound weird, but I've been using a nasal lubricant for the past few weeks. If you keep your nostrils lubricated they are less susceptible to picking up bugs via the dried out tissue of the nasal cavity. So far, so good.
Good luck in staying germ free on your vacation!

My son had a stomach bug- that must of been highly contagious. On Wednesday 13 of the 21 kids in his class were absent. My ds was out on Tuesday w/ this. Fortunately, it only lasted 24 hours. My dh also ended up w/ it the next day.
Tons of PD you don't get it.

Try to relax. Despite your housekeeper's experience, most stomach bugs are 24-48 hours. Good luck!!

If it makes you feel any better my daughter got it Thursday night vomitted for 5 hrs and was tired but fine on Friday. No one else in the house has gotten it. Wash hands and insist the kids do too often. Also, I love my lysol spray away!

Buy some hand sanitizer to carry around the parks. Before eating, always wash your hands, and make sure everyone keeps their fingers out of thier mouths! And stay away from the sick family. This way, the bug won'y transfer to your family.

I got a bad stomach flu that lasted for about 4 days while I was at WDW last year. I was a nail biter then, and I stopped for good now. It wasn't pleasant being sick down there. Luckily (I guess you could say) I got it the day we were supposed to leave. We had to stay an extra day, for obvious reasons, and the next morning I drove home to NJ, 16 hours away.

I hope everyone stays healthy and all the sick ones get better soon!

OK, this is going to be gross, but remember that a GI bug is transmitted via the fecal-oral route. :scared: Try not to share bathrooms with this family and if you do, do not touch the knobs or flushes with your bare hands after you wash (including on the door on your way out - use a tissue or your shirt to turn the knob). In our house I clean knobs with Lysol wipes I store in the bathrooms. Of course excellent handwashing is paramount as well as keeping hands away from your face. You have to teach your kids this as well which I admit is challenging, though mine have been taught to do this since they were old enough to use bathrooms. As a hospital nurse I can't help it, LOL. :teeth: Good luck, hope none of you catch anything and you can enjoy your trip. :wizard:

Three years ago I caught a nasty bug right before my Disney trip. And I wasn't just throwing up, if you catch my drift, My mother ended up driving me to the doctor where they gave me a shot of something that stopped it all. It was wonderful! :cool1: Do whatever you can to not get sick. Be a clean freak. Have your children wash their hands constantly. Carry hand sanitizer with you everywhere and make the kids use it before every snack/meal. I probably wouldn't let my children share toys with their friends, just to be on the safe side. Good luck! :flower:

Try not to freak out. More than likely, by Thursday, it will have run its course already through their family and yours should be in the clear. We just got over a "round" of it in our house. DS caught if from a cousin at Thanksgiving. She had it Thurs. night, her brother Fri. night, DS Sat. night, DH Sun. night, and it ended there. I felt really crummy the night after DH came down with it, but never actually threw up. It spread like wildfire but it only lasted 24 hours with each person. From what I can tell, this is really going around right now.

All you can do is just take your precautions and try not to let it ruin your vacation. Invest in GermX and Lysol. They can be your two best friends in times like these!

The bug hit here also-DS(6) haunched over with stomach pain Thursday night and vomited all night. He popped out of it on Friday. I became the victim on Saturday night. The wife has missed this bout so far.

Now if the 3 of us could get rid of our coughs-we would be fine.
