I put a call into the builder........waiting to hear back.....
can anyone give me any advice??? I'm getting ready to leave for a long weekend.

It's on the walls in 3 bathrooms, behind doors, 2 bedrooms and a closet wall is FULL of it.

What do they do to fix this?

Anyone ever have this before?

Any and all help, comments or suggestions VERY much appreciated!

Thanks!

Aaack! Where do you live? Did you have to sign a mold waiver? I know in TX we have to sign one which makes the builder not responsible.

I don't think we have that here in MO.

Is your new home covered under a new builder warranty?

I don't recall signing any kind of waiver, and yes, we have a 2 year warranty, just drove up to the sales office and the construction manager is in a meeting at the main office, so hopefully he will call soon.

Is the moisture coming from a leak? We had this happen to a room in our 3-4 year old home. At first the contractor tried to say that it's part of the normal wear and tear of the house and shingles. Sorry, but I don't think a 3 year old roof should be leaky! But I guess they knew that it was their mistake because they agreed to fix it. Turns out about 20 homes in our subdivision were having similar issues.

A company came in that specialized in water damage and they used machines to detect any moisture. They first tore the drywall down and pulled the moisture out of the room with these huge dehumidifiers. Then roofers came and repaired the faulty spot in the roof. Once that was done, they tore that whole section of the house down (about 5 feet wide), so we had a huge hole in the front of our house. They replaced everything - stucco, framing, insulation, drywall. The whole process took a few weeks. The biggest time consumer was the roofer. They kept saying they fixed the issue, but then more moisture would appear during the water tests. Make sure every repair is done to your satisfaction - do not compromise!

I have no idea if it is coming from a leak, thinking no, since I have found it on the first floor of the house and the second floor and on opposite sides of the house, but then again, I could have more than one leak????

What a mess you had........did you have to move out of your house while they fixed it? I would hope the builder compensated you for all that you had to put up with.

My house isn't even 6 months old yet

No, we didn't move out - just moved everything out of that room and shut it off while it was being repaired. The whole in the front of the house lasted a whole 2 hours. It's amazing how quickly they can put that stuff up when they want to! Other than the leak happening in the 1st place, the builder handled everything really well. We got a really good warranty agent who was really understanding (and probably concerned about a lawsuit).

Good luck! I know I hated going through it.

And rightly so....It "devalues" your home because now when you go to sell you are going to have to disclose that.
The word "mold" will make people run.

Make sure you find all leaks and get a complete repair.

We have a new house and they have been fixing basement cracks, window leaks, our circuit box was leaking!

This constant rain really sucks.:sad2:

Does mold just appear really fast - or has the mold been "growing"? That seems like a lot of places to have mold and just notice (I'm just curious, not judging). I think I might call the local health department and find out if it is safe to live around your particular kind of mold.

I'd be calling my health department too. Depending on the kind of mold, the cause of the issue, etc., it could be unsafe to live in your home because of the health risks to your family.

I've seen news reports of newly built homes here (Wisconsin) with mold growing. One of the families had no recourse because the builder had gone out of business the month before. In the reports I've seen, the families couldn't live in their homes, and they basically had to be torn down.

Good luck to you; I'll keep my fingers crossed for relatively good news for you.

Within the last 10 years, contractors have been getting drywall from China and it isn't mold resistant. I think Florida is really having problems, especially people that rebuild after Hurricanes. So maybe it has something to do with your drywall. Look out in your garage, they say, drywall that doesn't have any stamps from manufactures, means it came from China.
