Fraudulent charges Commerce, CA

Um, I'm not sure who is calling you but I know for a fact that it has always been Wells Fargo calling us. They give us more than enough info to confirm they are in fact with the bank and they have never once asked us for a card number or for our social security numbers. So while this is good advice in some cases, it's not if you actually have a card with the company calling because I have no doubt that WF would cut off our cards if we didn't verify our use of the card.

The safe thing to do is hang up and make a call to the credit card company. This happened to a relative. They verified the charge was correct. Also told her she did the safe thing. If it was a fraudulent charge the card would be cancelled immediately.

I have had the company call on several charges I made in other areas. They told me to call them back at the phone number on the back of the card. It was quickly resolved.

If we ever had a doubt that it was our credit card company then we would do that but we have never once had a single doubt.

I had someone lift a card number, while I was in Disney a couple of years ago. So now, I only use one particular card, while in WDW.

I had fraudulent charges on my debit card a few months ago. It took about four weeks, before my account was credited. The bank said, these were handled differently, than credit card transactions. I have always had my credit cards immediately refunded for fraudulent charges.

seems like we get a fraud call every couple months. I think it is from restaurants because that is about the only place they take your card, never had to fight the bank, they usually catch it in advance

Citibank calls me all the time if they suspect fraudlent activity. I always tell them thank you, I'll call you back. Then after I hang up, I call the number on the back of my card. Easy peasy, no doubt that the call is legit.

I had an issue and it took 6 weeks from the time I reported it until the bank sent me a letter saying their investigation was complete and the charges and interest were being refunded.
I only have 1 credit card and I have considered getting a second so I never get caught without a credit card.

Bank of America has its issues but they are great about detecting fraudulent activity. I know also to call them before a trip so they can notate that I'm in a different state on certain dates.

Has anyone ever dealt with fraudulent credit card charges that mysteriously appear on your credit card statement from Commerce, CA? I'm fighting tooth, hair and eyeball with my credit union over these charges. There were 4 charges, 2 from Guess Clothing #4010 in Commerce CA, 1 Maxstudio.com Commerce CA, 1 EntranceFairy in Commerce CA. These were some pretty high dollar transactions. The started with one several hundred dollar charge and went in to the $1000's. I've never been to California!!

first-I hope you get everything resolved.

second-just for future reference-where a merchant address is as far as credit card billing goes isn't nesccearly where the merchant is 'currently' located or where the actual transaction took place so depending on the merchant you could make a purchase near your home but the billing address actually shows up in another state.

our credit union mistakenly froze our card one day for this very reason. dh and I went into a local (to us) eatery and when we tried to use our card we were advised that the credit card company wanted us to immediately contact them. come to find out the reason was b/c late the previous night a charge for around $60 had been done and the address of the vendor was in new york so when we tried within less than 10 hours to do another charge across the country the credit card company immediately thought that it was a stolen card. not stolen at all-we had gone to a national touring theatre production the night before and had bought some t shirts-the vendor who traveled with the company around the country though had all of their business information registered as new york (where their brick and mortar was located). as soon as we heard the dollar amount and what time it had been charged we knew exactly who we had purchased from, advised the credit card company, and they unfroze the account.

we've had very good luck with our credit union card-they seem to very closely monitor. the biggest nightmare we ever dealt with on a credit card was through discover. it took over a year of arguing back and forth with them before they conceded we hadn't made the charges but a month AFTER it was resolved they turned around and reposted the bill (the merchant hadn't rerun it) on the NEW account they had set up for us:mad::mad::mad: I called to straighten it out and got into a heated discussion with them UNTIL the phone call was broken into by someone who was monitoring the call (I've heard that recording about how 'this call may be monitored for customer service' a million times calling banks-never before or since had the call taken over by the 'monitor') who immediately resolved the issue and then tried unsuccessfully to convince me to not cancel my discover card (canceled and will never do bsns. with them again).

Same as PPs, I had one fraudulent charge and it was immediately credited after I contacted the cc company (chase) while they investigated. I'd also drop them once it's finally settled.

Same here- its happened a few times to me and each time Chase credits me and then investigates, I would leave where ever you are banking and find a new bank!

Thank you for all the replies! Sorry I didn't get back sooner, company started arriving and then the holidays took over.

I've taken everyone's advice into account. My husband and I are meeting at our credit union at lunch. We're canceling all our accounts with them. It has been absolutely ridiculous all the work I have had to do to get this issue resolved, and still nothing has been done. He has been with this credit union since he turned 18. We have never had a problem like this ever before. But we are both disgusted. We have opened an account at Chase Bank and that is who we will be doing business with from now on. It's always been a little inconvenient not having bank access when we travel, but having the credit union, personalized banking at our fingertips, the bankers don't change very often a the credit union has been so nice. One lady commented the other day that she couldn't believe that our son would be driving soon, she remembered him as a baby. Touching, but blah at this point.

What did they say when you went today?

Honestly, I think that you'll find that you get the same personal service at your local branch of Chase or whichever big bank. We have been with the same branch since the 80's through mergers and name changes. The local employees don't change much though. When we've had issues or needed service, we are always able to call or go in and meet with someone that we've known for years.

Any time I found a fraudulent charge on a card, the bank issued a refund immediately. Last time it happened, I had been in WDW and luckily, I double checked the card I used as soon as I got home. I called the bank that night and it was reversed.

Maybe the credit union isn't as good as the banks are with this. If they make it hard, I'd consider dropping them and getting a credit card from someone else.
I had "out of town" point of sale attempted in Missouri on Disney Visa..think it stemmed from either Staples or Home Depot stolen information about a year ago. Disney Visa "flagged" the transaction and denied, notified me, and IMMEDIATELY took care of re-issuing me another Disney Visa which was Fed Exed the next day. EXCELLENT customer service:thumbsup2! I would also not use this credit card credit union company in future. Seems like they are "dragging their feet" and it is unnerving to you the customer!:scared1: GOOD LUCK in resolving this!:goodvibes::yes::
