Fraudlent charges on credit card

We have pay pass up here in Canada.

I don't really care for it. You just tap the card on the spot on the pin pad machine and it's done. No pin no proof of who you are!

So far I've been lucky and haven't had any problems. I did get a phone call a few years ago (before the pay pass was on the CC) about a small charge to Scholastic. Apparently that's how the theives find out if the CC# is good. It was my charge so they approved it.

Someone got my Disney Visa number last fall and charged a bunch of stuff. Of course, Chase removed all of the charges, but (and maybe this was a "bonus" for my trouble?), they left all of the Disney rewards points/dollars on my account. An unexpected but very nice surprise.

It will become more frequent given certain large card association mandates to merchants and issuers. Yes, there are "sniffers" that simply read NFC (near field communication) data, go off and make up white plastics off of it.

I was specifically addressing the comment that someone made about protecting their cards with a metal case to prevent sniffing and how the case provides no additional security to regular credit cards. Like you said, you need to review your statements to detect fraud and not rely on some fancy card holder to do it for you.
