France Hates Disney

and i would like to point out that you could hate france and like dlp. i was urging people - even those who hate france, to give dlp a shot. you might find you like it. i like france and i like dlp - but dlp is not very french. quite frankly there were far more british people and german people when we were there, and we were there during vacances.

That's why I said I would like someone to lift DLP up and drop it in a country I can stand so that I can visit it. I don't think I could bear stepping foot in France again. That south of Spain location is sounding lovely.

I do not dislike France. I would very much like to visit this country some day. But, I do know a French student getting a free education in this country that is being paid for by our local Rotary club. She dislikes Americans and everything American, and is very vocal about it. She dislikes our culture, our food, our transportation system, our shopping malls, etc. As a matter of fact, the only positive thing I have heard her say about the U.S. is she likes our education system. But, she has no qualms about partaking in it freely. I'm sure there are as many rude French people in France as there are rude Americans in the U.S. That Rotary Club should have given that money to an American citizen. That's my only beef with France.

Well, I have been to France and I hated it. You couldn't pay me to go back there. I was so excited to go, I had saved forever, taken three years of French, planned a meeting with my friend Sylvie... ugh, I shudder just thinking about what an awful place France is, IMHO. The people were incredibly rude, the cities were filthy, I'm having unpleasant flashbacks of the people right now. *shudder* And I am not your stereotypical loud demanding American.

US flags mounted in dog droppings in German city

BAYREUTH - Baffled authorities in southern Germany have issued an alert concerning unknown persons who have been sticking small US flags into piles of dog droppings in public parks in Bayreuth.

"This has been going on for about a year now, and there must be 2,000 to 3,000 piles of excrement that have been thusly 'adorned' during that time," said Bayreuth parks administrator Josef Oettl.

give me a break - quoting that article following this comment would be akin to me saying all americans were american flag burners. some people do it. it doesn't mean the whole country is that way.

i think france is a beautiful country but i agree with Rich on the comments on dlp. The park is extremely well laidout and i think much prettier than the magic kingdom but both times i have been there i have encountered rude cm's which have spoilt my day. For my 19th birthday, dcentity2000 surprised me with a trip to dlp and got me a birthday badge. Now i wasnt expecting the magic like in wdw but thought if something happens it would be nice- in fact more than one cm was very hostile and unwelcoming towards me, the shock (after being treated so well in wdw) eventually got to me and i got very upset I have also been rejected entry to dlp because i forgot to stamp my hand- despite the rest of my family having hand stamps and all of us having tickets.
Im not saying the french people are horrible or that france is a 'bad' country- im just saying from personal experience- the service we've received from the french people working in dlp was terrible and very unmagical therefore for the money we spent- we should have saved it and gone to florida.

I had no problems when we went to Paris with Anti-American sentiment. We rented an apartment in the Latin Quarter and didn't stay in touristy destinations.

While I don't doubt that people have bad experiences when going anywhere--sometimes once things start to head south--other instances of negativity that would otherwise have gone unnoticed are magnified tenfold.

I didn't expect much when I went and was pleasantly surprised when things went smoothly.

The only thing that ticks me off is I shipped home souvenirs from the 5th district and we never got them home. The box made it to the United States--so I blame our own postal service for that one. I felt like I got a ransom note when I got the address portion of the box 3 months later. No explanation except a message on the envelope that apologized for the delay of my damaged contents. ???? There were no contents. I want my stuff!!!!! Okay, rant over. I don't blame France as my "ransom" note came in a USPS envelope.

France and Germany are by no means a melting pot. They are very monolithic and really not that diverse. I’ve never met a German whose hand writing is different from another. If the Germans wanted to catch the person who’s desecrating US flags, it wouldn’t be hard to track the purchase of 3000 US flags.

Not all French people hate Americans and not all French people are rude. France isn't dirty everywhere either. Yes, I've been to a small part of France. Saying these things is like the stereotype that all New Yorkers are rude.

Um sorry but it wasn't just because of the states that they aren't speaking German Canada had a big hand in helping out also and the Brits so don't go patting yourselves on the back as being their saviour.

10 years ago I visited Disneyland Paris... actually don't remember alot about it, I was 17, you'd think I would have? But I do remember the fireworks, they were awesome! I have them on tape still, they were really neat and fun.

I agree, it just wasn't your typical disney magic over there... maybe that's why I don't remember it so much?

Alot of Americans have a negative view of the French because alot of French have a negative view of Americans. The French look down on everyone, it's a national past time, like overeating for Americans and drinking for Brits. Not everyone participates, but enough do that it validates the stereotype. The French have many wonderful things about their culture, but nothing the world can't live without,frankly. You can live without art, but not the medical breakthroughs, industrial and technological advances, and engineering feats that have come out of America, Britian and Germany. So while I love French food, art, FOOD, and Christopher Lambert(Highlander!!), from a practical stand point we are superior, I'm really going to need that American invented artificial heart from all that wonderful French food. By the way, French wine isn't really French any more, several years ago they had a blight in their wine grapes. Wiped out the whole wine industry, where did they get the new stock to make their FRENCH wine from? California.
