It's true.

Fireworks are banned in Disneyland Paris. Blue plastic swords from the Peter Pan ride were confiscated in Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport recently for being replica weapons (not given back even when the two toddlers burst into tears), signs to the park are regularly defaced and a Pluto character booted a kid up the back end for hugging him.

They should have put the park in the south of Spain.

When I was there--it just didn't seem all that Disney-esque to me..more like a branch office.

Isn't it still LOSING $$$

I hate France! They can kiss my underpants.

My husband keeps talking about taking a trip there. I'm not too interested. He said he heard someone on base saying they had a blast when they went over the holidays. I guess I am just afraid of going with the expectation of it being exactly like the one in Orlando.....which I know it never can be the same.

Personally, I'd like to visit it at least once before it closes. (Which I have a feeling it will). The castle looks pretty and they have some sort of dragon thing I want to see.

But that's horrible about Pluto and the defacing.

The airport stuff would happen anywhere, I think. My brother had a pair of toy plastic handcuffs taken away from him at the airport in Las Vegas when he was 8 years old (this was in the late 1980's) and I'd imagine it's worse now.

France has always "hated" us. I agree, I don't know why they ever put the park there. I wonder what % of park vistors are from France.

Oh well, I can't even tell you the last time I bought a bottle of French wine..... CA do taste better (IMHO).

Alas, the south of Spain wasn't willing to give Disney any of the perks that France did. Had they ponied up a few more concessions, EuroDisney well might well have been in Spain.

A few clarifications ...

Fireworks are not banned at Disneyland Paris. Fireworks of a certain type and style are banned at Disneyland Paris just as fireworks of a certain type and style are banned at Disneyland in California, and will be banned in Hong Kong. Apparently because of complaints by neighboring farmers on behalf of their easily spooked livestock, exploding shells in the skies over DLP have been banned. So the Euro fireworks are all of the flare and silent-exploding type. I must say that, with what they have to work with, they do an excellent job.

The "Peter Pan Sword" incident is not all that recent, it happened last July. It is the only instance of it happening, which hardly proves that "France hates Disney." Frankly, the swords could have been of any type or style, bought at DLP, Parc Asterix, or anywhere in between. The folks at DeGaulle Airport would have confiscated them wherever they came from.

Signs to the parks are not "regularly" defaced. They are defaced just as much as any other American sign in Paris. McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken signs suffer far more, with some restaurants not even posting signs outside any more due to the high vandalism rate.

And, finally, while a Pluto character did, indeed, "boot a kid up the back end," it was not simply for hugging him. It was for pulling his tail and his fur repeatedly, while the family looked on, laughing and taking photos. (It was, by the way, a French family and child.) It is, of course, inappropriate for any Disney character to retaliate for any instance of "character teasing or cruelty," but it happens in Paris, California, Florida, and even occasionally Tokyo. DLP is certainly not the only Disney location where characters have been known to "snap," although it's rare in all locations, including Paris.

Y'all don't down France too much, because without them, we wouldn't be who we are today :earboy2:

Thanks for the clarifications - although people like the first versions better  probably.

Well, this thread is one of the silliest things I've read in a long time. This "I hate France" mentality has gotten way out of hand. You people realize that as a country, it is a collection of people with a variety of views and attitudes. If you do chose to travel to France, you might find it a beautiful place with extraordinary people, assuming you don't go there already bashing their culture.
