FP+ when arriving late

I will be trying to squeeze in a half day at the parks while taking my father to the Daytona 500 next weekend. My question is this: if I arrive at Magic Kingdom or Epcot around 2pm, will I actually be able to secure FP+ reservations for the remainder of the day? Or do they get "sold out" like traditional FP's?

From the crowd calendar estimations, it should be a busy weekend there because of a 10k as well, so being able to secure some FP+ will be key to making it a good day. It doesn't make sense to drop $200 on a couple tickets and ride 5 rides before closing, haha.

The more popular attractions will possibly be sold out at that point in the day, especially if you were wanting to do Soarin' or Test Track at Epcot.

So is it safe to say that arriving at 2pm to MK, I would not likely get any FP+ reservations for E-Ticket rides?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I think you have a decent chance at MK in particular, since there are quite a few to choose from. I wouldn't like your chances at any other park at that time of day.

Honestly the system is too new for anyone to answer with much confidence or experience.

And that's pretty much what I expected. I just want to try to justify paying for two 1-day tickets when I'll be arriving at 2pm. Luckily MK is open till 1am that day, so hopefully evening ride lines will be short.

Maybe I'll see you there. :thumbsup2

The last 2 times I went to Magic Kingdom, I arrived at 4 pm and 7pm. I am an AP holder and had to do FP+ at a kiosk in MK. I'm a "stay to closing" person.

There were no FPs for the parade or fireworks viewing areas. The cast member said these are almost always gone before the day. 4 pm day - I got BTMRR at 5:50pm, HauMan at 7:45, SpaceMt at 8:50. BTM and SM saved about 30 min or more wait, HM was walk-on for stand-by. 7 pm day - HauMan at 7:45 (no wait), Peter pan at 9pm (30 min standby), no other good ride had FPs. The CM did give me a special 1 person any ride FP voucher that I used at BTMRR (score!).

So, you can get some good rides but you have to be a "closing time" type of person.

I wonder the same thing. I was thinking of going late Friday night (arriving between 6 and 7) but I decided to go early Saturday morning instead because I didn't know what FP times I might get for Friday. I will be very happy when I get my magic bands - hopefully soon for this AP holder...

We hit AK last night about 4:00 and I went straight for a FP Kiosk. The only options I was given was Tough to be a Bug, Primeval Whirl and Kali River Rapids. I think the availability for Kali had to be because of how chilly it was. So definitely slim pickins.

If you have magic bands can you make your FP+ choices for later in the day? We also will be getting to the park later around 10:30. I can not make my FP+ choices yet so I was not sure if you can make them for later.

Just to follow up on this thread. I arrived to the park today around 3. Got to a FP+ kiosk at 4pm. I got passes for Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise.

Honestly, the FP+ system made my half-day in the park a great success because we able to have no waiting on 3 quality rides.

I can only speak to my experience this past week trying to swap FP+ and I would say that you'll have slim pickings at Epcot, DHS, or AK. I think you'll find stuff to do at MK because there are SO many rides. I would not go to DHS but I would still consider Epcot. You likely won't get a FP+ for Soarin' or Test Track (and honestly, legacy FPs typically disappeared by 3 or 4 for both of those rides even in slow season). However, FutureWorld lines do tend to drop off significantly in the afternoon... And Test Track has single rider. As far as MK, speaking from my experience on the Sunday before President's Day (also evening EMH), standby lines really dropped off in the evening. If the park is open really late, I'd consider MK and plan for an early dinner and then hit the rides standby when people are in restaurants, lining up for the parade, fireworks, etc.
