It sounds like once you link tickets to your MDE account, you can practice making FP+ reservations prior to the 60-day window for on-site guests. How does that work? This will be my first time using FP+.

Go on mde, go to the fast pass section, select a day, a park, and then fast passes

It's really simple

You will only be able to see 30 days out until your 60 day window opens. Pretty easy though.

And be sure to Cancel out your FPs at the end of your practice session. That opens them back up for others to book.

My package is linked but it is still asking me to link tickets. What am I doing wrong?

Guests with Packages booked cannot practice. It's because the tickets in your package become active on check-in day.

Those with separately linked tickets in MDE have "active" tickets and can practice.

If you have a package, is there any way to activate the tickets so you can practice? We're attending with a dance group and received a discount on the tickets, so I assume we have a package. Have not received any cards or magic bands yet.

Check with the coordinator of your group and ask about ticket confirmation numbers. If the coordinator has them, they can assign tickets to each person.

If you don't have separate tickets, choosing FPs is equivalent to online shopping or using Open Table to schedule a dinner reservation. Choose people, choose date, choose Park and then select from the options.

It pretty basic as long as you choose the correct people to begin your booking.

We all had to specify what type of tickets we wanted, so everyone will have their own tickets, which will be different types depending on what type of ticket you purchased. So I'm thinking we will all have separate tickets that I can link so I can practice >60 days out - unless I'm looking at this wrong.

Whether they are separate or in a package, your coordinator has to give you confirmation numbers - either for the package reservation or separately linked tickets.

So does this mean that if you book a package you can not book FP+s until the day you check in and not 60 days prior?

No. It just means you can't practice before your 60 day window opens.

It's your "package" that opens your 60 day window, not your inactive tickets.
