FP+ plus changing resorts confused and worried

I have asked general questions about this but maybe I am reading too much into it, but I am now concerned. I have read just recently about a thing called throw away rooms. Now this was never ever my intention to do, but:

I have already made POP ressies for 2 rooms. 8 of us were going. I have already received 8 tickets from SOG (Mil 4 day Salute tickets). These are all linked in my MDE. I have also made the FP+ at the 60 day mark.

There is a very high chance now that 3 of us will not be going. So I have made a SOG ressie for the same time/dates. If the 3 do not go SOG will save us over $1000. So this made sense to me. I have not linked this SOG ressie yet.

It was asked in a post (I can't find it now) that I should canx my Pop once I am within my 30 day window and get the refund from Pop and my FP+ should still be intact since I am within 30 days.

When should I link the SOG ressie? Should this be done prior to canx Pop? Will the FP+ be cancelled? If I link SOG will that canx my Pop automatically since I will have 2 ressies for the same dates?

Getting confused from reading all these posts and am worrying myself to death here.

Thank you for any help in this.

As long as you Cancel Pop after you are within your 30 day arrival window, your FPs remain as is.

There's no reason to link SOG as it serves no purpose. It's considered an offsite resort.

Related question. We booked a room at Port Orleans for next January's marathon week because we wanted to make sure we had a room, but the military discounted rooms (if they offer that promotion again this year) won't become available until we have booked ADRs and possibly/probably FP+ reservations. If we are able to book a military discounted room and then cancel our previous reservation, will our ADRs and FP+s remain intact? It would all be at the Port Orleans as that is hubby's preferred resort hotel.

You'll be fine as ADRs are available to anyone - they aren't based on an onsite reservation. FPs remain because they are based on the linked tickets.

Thank you so much Hiro! Of course that makes sense now that you lay it out like that. Just have a habit of getting nervous about things before I think them through!
