FP for guest not on trip?

okay, so trip coming up in 2 weeks. Consists of my usual crowd, plus one newbie.
Due to a very long story I will not bore you with, newbie MAY not go.
Because her status is up in the air, she is not purchasing a ticket until we are there, and of course the planner in me is freaking out because she won't have FP's.

So, when I made FP selections for the rest of the group, I added my BIL to the group. He has an AP, but will not be going (he may fill in for newbie if she can't go)
My plan was to cancel his FP's and try and book them for newbie at the same time (similar to the cancellation coordination that goes on here, or used to, I've not kept up with those threads)

But I was thinking, can we just bring one of his magic bands and have her use it for FP's? She wouldn't be using it for anything else, it just seems like it would save me a headache.
I'm not interested in opinions on the morality of this one way or another, I'm just asking if it can be done. (Or for instance, will the band not work for FP's because he didn't use it to enter the gate)
