FP booking and Package Tix vs AP

I've spent some time researching how booking FP with APs is supposed to work, however, after an hour of searching I couldn't find a post about my specific scenario so here goes...

We (DH & I) would like to purchase an AP on our next trip (Feb/Mar 2017) as we plan to visit WDW 2x next year and an AP is the best value (combined stays more than 12 days).

We currently have 12-night room-only resort ressie booked. I want to change it to a package in order to get the DDP. In that case I would have to add tickets (right?), and was thinking about just the 2-day minimum required pass (just in case plans change).

When we get to the parks, I would use the 2-day ticket value to upgrade to an AP.

However, I don’t think I could book FP+ at 60 days out if I only have 2-day tickets attached to package, correct?

I think these are my only options to enable me to book at 60 days for length of stay:

Opt 1. Purchase the AP 60+ days in advance instead – thereby allowing me to book FP at my 60 day window opening for the length of our stay? (forgo using the value of the 2-day package tickets toward the AP price and save it for future visit after 2017).

Opt 2. Purchase the tickets for our length of stay on the package (since you can only get 10-day min. on a package I would also have to purchase 2-day tickets separately). It looks this would cost less than an AP, so I could still use that value toward upgrading to AP once I get to the parks (right)?

Are those my only two options that would enable me to be able to book FP @ 60 days out?

Anything else I’m missing (be kind :o).

Thanks in advance for your help!:-)

You no longer need to purchase tickets in order to add the DDP. You can now book what is called a ticket-less package and add dining to that. But you can only book this by calling Disney. You can't book it using the website.

Since you don't have to buy two day tickets, then this is probably your best option.

I wasn't aware of the ticketless package option so that's great to know! I'm booked thru AAA so I'll let my TA know; I haven't asked my agent yet but wanted to be prepared because they don't always know these options.

I think I will plan to purchase the APS in advance.
Thanks for your reply!
