Fox canceled Reunion :(

I am really upset about this and fired off an email to Fox, not that I really think they care but this is what it said:

Hello,

I am writing you because I just read on the internet that Reunion has been canceled.
I am very upset about this because I actually debated on watching this show (although the previews really looked good) because I watched Point Pleasant, and then that was canceled before we were told the ending.

I actually saved Reunion on my TIVO for a few weeks before watching it because I didn't want to get "sucked in" only to have FOX cancel it, so if it got canceled I would have deleted the episodes without watching....well it wasn't canceled in the first few weeks so I watched and got hooked.

I can understand if the show wasn't doing too well and the need for cancelation arose, but I would think that you would at least finish out the season or put it out on DVD.
Why push a show about finding out who the murderer is, and then not even have the decency to air the complete season?

I know I am only one voice and my opinion probably doesn't even matter...but im telling you this....I will not watch Fox shows anymore. I have been burned twice with cancelations of shows I have been interested in, it is one thing if it is something like the Simpsons or Stacked that doesn't have a continuous story line, but a murder mystery? I really think it is in bad taste to leave your viewers hanging like that.

Thank you for your time,
Stacey Ambrose (Ex Fox Viewer)

WHAT?! Ok, not for nothing but I really liked that show! I'd tape it along with the OC because we watch Survivor and CSI, but then watch the taped shows on a different night . . .

Ok so we'll never know who killed Sam and why the heck her hubby ended up in a wheelchair . . .what a bunch of bull dookie! Wasn't it Fox than cancelled another show I liked . . .Models, Inc.?

Im mad too! I really wanted to know what happened, here is an article I found on it:

The gimmick of Fox's "Reunion" was that each episode depicted one year in the 20-year friendship of six pals. Scenes set in the present day revealed that one of the six, Samantha (Alexa Davalos), had been killed, likely by one of her five friends.

So there were howls from those addicted to "Reunion's" guilty pleasures (it could be pretty cheesy at times) when Fox canceled the show last week. Sadly, it doesn't look we'll find out whodunit any time soon.

A Fox spokesman says the network plans to air six more episodes of the program -- two in December and four in early 2006.

But "Reunion" executive producer Jon Feldman issued this statement Friday: "Because the events of Samantha's murder are partially reliant on characters we haven't yet met -- and events we haven't yet seen -- there is no way to solve the mystery of her murder without being able to complete the full arc of our story through [the] present day. I greatly regret that this question along with many others that the series has posed will remain unsolved."

You can email them at askfox@foxinc.com too

For crying out loud...I just wanted to know who killed Sam.

I sort of enjoyed the 40 minute or so escape into bad TV. Think I'll sign the petition and shoot them an email. Oh well.

I liked the pilot and the next few but then the delay and the writing went off the deep end - it really stunk in the end. I had no patience for it being a soap opera. The concept was good but execution was far lacking.

I have this problem with getting hooked on shows and needing closure if it is a continuos story line, that is what happened with Point Pleasant, well im telling you...no more Fox shows for me, they do this too often.

I'm disappointed too. Yeah, the acting and dialogue weren't great, but it was still entertaining enought to watch every week. I wish they'd at least finish what they started and then cancel it for next year!

This is one reason my wife won't read a long series of novels until the last one in the series is published.

Regarding the letter to Fox, please accept the following as constructive criticism:

I am writing you because I just read on the internet that Reunion has been canceled.
It is probably best never to mention the Internet. Most companies have a very bad opinion of the Internet as an information source, and it doesn't add anything to your point to mention that's where you read this. It would hold more weight to mention that you read this in an industry magazine, such as Entertainment Weekly, I believe.

I can understand if the show wasn't doing too well and the need for cancelation arose, but I would think that you would at least finish out the season or put it out on DVD.
That would only matter to Fox if they owned the DVD distribution rights. They don't. Warner Brothers does.

Why push a show about finding out who the murderer is, and then not even have the decency to air the complete season?
and
I really think it is in bad taste to leave your viewers hanging like that.
Appealing to "decency" and mentioning "bad taste" is going to fall flat -- it's business, nothing personal. I believe raising such issues would make someone reading the letter more likely to discount it.

I know I am only one voice and my opinion probably doesn't even matter...
It doesn't help, though, the remind them. :)

Thank you for your time,

Over the top.

Good letter. Nothing wrong at all with voicing your opinion. Worse that can happen is they don't listen to you.

No offense, I was just letting everyone know what I wrote, I didn't ask you to pull it apart and make me look like a fool.

Thank you, you are right, I just wanted them to know my opinion...and if they get quite a few letters who knows...maybe they will cancel the cancellation LOL

I watched Star Trek. Reunion was no Star Trek, Mr. Pinobi. :)

I would count on the remaining episodes never being made, nor a DVD ever produced. While there are some one-season series that have captured such attention, such as Firefly, this one doesn't seem to be one of those series.

Don't blame Fox: Blame baseball. If it were more lucrative for Fox to broadcast entertainment instead of the World Series, they would. And despite the baseball interruption, shows like How I Met Your Mother and Bones are doing well.

I realize that, Mr. Bicker. I was merely drawing an analogy with a show that had been saved from cancellation in the past by fan support.

OTOH, Fox does have a history of listening to their viewers. They brought back Family Guy, for example, and they eventually resolved the cliffhanger from Alien Nation.

Even if Fox decides not to conclude the mystery, even with a brief miniseries, I'm sure the producers are exploring other options, such as other networks to produce and air the remaining episodes.

I guess the main question is, how loyal is the show's fan base? Loyal enough to lobby for the conclusion to be made? Or will they let it go?

And I wouldn't just blame baseball. I was watching the show before the postseason began, hoping that it would improve. It was slowly getting better but still not great. If it had been great (other than in concept) from the get go, it would have held my attention and I would have been back after the World Series, and I'm sure the same can be said for many other viewers.

The best that we can hope for is that the people in control of the show realize just how much fans want to know the answer to the mystery and they'll release a press release, or talk to a television columnist and will explain in detail what would have happened and who the murderer would have been. Based on whats already been released from the producers (posted somewhere in this thread), I doubt this'll happen, but maybe they'll realize that the fans want to know.

But beyond that, I would not expect anything else.

Im still depressed about it!
Like I said before, when it is a continuous story line it is hard to let it go because you want to know what happened...especially in a murder mystery.

I just found this article:

http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/criticscorner/2005-12-14-critics-corner_x.htm
why would anyone waste time on Reunion (Fox, 9 p.m. ET/PT) now that Fox has cut the show's order and producer Jon Feldman has refused to wrap up the mystery in the episodes he has left? Even if Fox airs all five remaining episodes — a risky bet itself — you're still going to be stuck in the middle. A season-long mystery entails an implicit promise of a solution, but in this case, the promise was explicit. This summer, Feldman said that if his show were cut to 13 episodes, he would "absolutely" agree to "tie it up." And now he finds that impossible? If Peter Jackson can tell The Lord of the Rings in 10 hours, Feldman should be able to tell this potboiler in 13. Yes, TV is a business. But like any business, it works best when the customers are shown a little respect.

Now it seems that the producer had promised to wrap up the mystery if Fox decided not to buy the final episodes and now he can't do it. I hope they decide to run a few mini series, that might work.

I found this article on line about Reunion:

http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Archive2005/051216.html
SOS: Save One Show! Yes, it is that time of year again when many of the TV shows we love are getting the axe, falling prey to network execs who are slicing and dicing 'em up as if they were black-belted Benihana chefs.

As a fellow die-hard fan, I feel your pain. And with all the heart-wrenching TV casualties lately--Alias, Arrested, Reunion, the horror!--it's high time to step in and do everything within our power to help save these shows. Hence, the return of our annual SOS poll, where you decide which shows are most worth rescuing, and I take that message straight to the networks.

Here's what you can do to help:

1. Look over the endangered series below--or choose any other show I may have forgotten.
2. Select the one show you most want to save from cancellation, and email me ( tvdiva@eonline.com) with that show's name in the subject line. (Please take into consideration not only how much you love each show but how likely it is to survive.)

In an upcoming column, the top three shows with the most votes will get a heartfelt plea written by yours truly, which will be sent to the decision makers at each show's home network and any other network who might consider picking it up.

Keep in mind, the more votes we have, the louder you'll be heard. So, please, email this column to all your friends, family, strangers, enemies, dogs, etc.!

Here are the endangered series:

7th Heaven: Will end in May.
Alias: Ditto.
Arrested Development: No official cancellation, but it looks imminent. There is talk of a pickup by Showtime. (More below.)
Charmed: The girls' contracts are up, and WB sources say it is likely to be canceled in May.
The Comeback: Already gone. Some of us still can't get over it. We don't wann see that?
Everwood: Despite the best season yet, the WB has pulled it off the air till March. Not the best sign.
Fat Actress: No announcement yet of a return.
Kitchen Confidential: Officially canceled.
Night Stalker: ABC has officially canceled it, however, the Sci Fi Channel has picked up the episodes already shot.
Reunion: Fox has shut down production. There are rumblings the WB might want to pick it up. (Note: I found out the identity of Sam's killer. We can discuss in Monday's chat whether you want to know!)
Threshold: CBS canceled it.
Veronica Mars: Highly debatable whether it belongs on this list. There are no signs UPN is considering canceling VM, but given the lower than deserved ratings, it still needs support.
The West Wing: On the fence. This could be the last season.
What I Like About You: Sources say it is likely to end in May.
Will & Grace: Will end in May

Notice she wrote she knows who the killer is....

I think we should all email her, it won't hurt right??

However, that quoted material raises very important considerations. If you're going to save one show, as it suggests, that list is a good yardstick for determining whether this specific show is the one you should be expending your energy on. I've seen all of the shows on that list, except for three, and there are some very good shows on that list, shows with good writing and acting, like The West Wing, Veronica Mars, and Night Stalker.

I wouldn't bother with Alias or Will and Grace. Both shows have run their course, and while I'd love to see another year of Sidney Bristow kicking butt, I'd rather see what Jennifer Garner can do next year if she wasn't subjected to Alias.
