Four vaccines at one doctors appointment, too many or just enough?

Now that I am old and decrepit I qualified for some new vaccines.

At my physical a couple days ago I got covid and shingrix in my left arm and tetanus and pneumococcal in the right.

Despite everyone always telling me how much tetanus hurt, I can say with authority that covid and shingrix are much more painful days later than tetanus and pneumococcal. Two days later it still hurts too much to lay on my left side to sleep.

My wife thinks I am crazy that I let them give me all four at the same time but I figure why spread out and prolong the pain? I also pointed out that the kids often got multiple vaccines at the same time especially when really young.

As an adult how many vaccines have you received at the same time?

ONE- just one. Same as what I used to let them give my daughter growing up, she only would get one vaccine per visit- I always thought it was crazy to pump more than one at a visit into a tiny 5 pound body

I always get them one at a time usually at the local pharmacy. Seems to me IF I were to have some sort of adverse reaction it would be easier to determine which one caused the problem. My doctor doesn't give routine shots like the flu vaccine and covid shots were never available from them. Part of that I think relates to the very cold storage required of certain ones. Have never had any significant reaction to shots in general.

I've done flu and tetanus at once and did fine. But I would never combine a Covid shot with any others. To much arm pain, too many side effects. I'm out for a full day after, this last booster it went into a second day. I think I'm crying uncle on Covid boosters going forward. Can't keep doing that to myself.

I would have done the Covid one at a separate appointment a couple weeks earlier/later. It is so new, doctors would not even know whether there would be any issue combining it with other vaccines.
It's definitely up to your comfort level, of course. But millions of people have successfully combined Covid vaccines with all manner of other vaccines over the past two years now, including me. So I don't see any issue at this point personally.

I def. did not want to combine flu with covid knowing how I reacted to the covid vaccine. This year even the flu affected me a tiny bit where I just felt off for more than a day combined with heavy arm but the covid vaccine lays me out so bad.

In general these days I just want to be able to track which ones give me what.

Plenty of people don't react to the Covid shots. Plenty of people do. So it's going to very much depend on one's experience with it previously.

I got 3 of the 4 within days of each other in August. Tetanus, COVID the next day and a few days later Shingles. Shingles hurt more and is the only one that I got a reaction from.

In 2016 I took an overseas gov job which required worldwide medical clearance. I was required to have 16 different vaccinations + some oral meds and some vaccinations were series vaccinations where I had to go up to 3 times for that shot.

I drew the line at 4 per arm each visit. It hurt too bad to try to sleep if I did more. Looking back it was terrible- but I also never fell ill overseas.

I am also immunocompromised. One shot at a time, separated by at least one week, according to my doctor.

I will let my dog get two vaccines at once but not more. I usually have to bring her back for a third a few weeks later.

Sorry you are having such bad pain, OP.

I had the shingrex and had bad side effects. I need to get the second one but I’m a big chicken.

Get the 2nd. But bring Ibu to your appointment and take it right after you get the shot and on schedule for the next 72 hours. It should help a lot with the pain (I had really bad 1st and 2nd side effects, but the ibu made the pain tolerable, so it never got "life-affecting" bad)...it's something I learned to do between shot 1 and shot 2...

Mine was the worst headache I have ever had, and I get migraines. The nurse practitioner at urgent care acted like she wanted to send me to the ER. I think she was afraid I was having a stroke.

I hate needles!

If they come near me with a second shoot I pretty much have a panic attack.

On the other hand, believe it or not the Walmart I used seems to have their pharmacy pretty squared away. Process and the shoot is pretty painless, and I can come back tomorrow for the next one….

Four at once? I Would require sedation.

Most I've done is 2 (covid and flu), but I wouldn't be opposed to 4 at once if I was due for them. Get it all over with at once.

Just one at a time-I'd get more than one happily, but there was never an opportunity when it came up to do it that way. Shingrix did me in, and I had a painful to the touch lump on my arm for weeks from the first shot. The second shot I had no problems at all.

I've done flu and covid booster and flu and Tdap. I've never had any concerning reactions to vaccines, so I feel fairly safe doing it.

I had first Shingrix, flu, and pneumonia together. Shingrix kicked my butt, the worst reaction since Typhoid when I was a kid. My doctor and my pharmacist said this combination was fine and I trust them. Second Shingrix was no problem.

I get 1 at a time, immuno compromised and feel less of a chance of interactions.. cvs typically and I schedule them to my liking.
