Day 9 – Another day; another Early Entry

PLAN –Magic Kingdom then River Country then back to MK
CHANGES TO PLAN – RC ‘down for re-hab’ so quit MK lunchtime, find Wal-Mart then head for Wet N Wild. Islands of Adventure for the evening.
MISSED FROM PLAN TO DATE - Pleasure Island , Blizzard Beach, Wet n Wild, Downtown Disney, Fantasmic, IoA, Seaworld (Clyde & Seamore,Pets on Stage) & Wal-Mart.

So Stranger, here we are. It’s 5.50am, the alarm is set for 6am and the family snore with no regard to tempo or harmony.
The phone rings 6.00am prompt and I shake me little angel –
“Do you want to talk to Mickey, Pet?”
“NO!” ….she’s not at her best today then!
I shove Valerie in the back and tell her to get it. She smiles, nods her head, puts down the phone and asks where her coffee is. I trundle off to the food court and bring back the two coffees. Of course I drink both coz V’s back into her deep kip. Ho Hum!

I manage to get them up at 6.55 and we’re out for the bus to MK at 7.20. The fact we’re at the front of the line tells me we’ve just missed one. Only 5 minutes and there’s another one along and we’re pressing through the gates of MK at 7.40.

Straight to Fantasyland and we’re off on Pooh again. Once more without queuing then off to Snow White. After waving to Dopey, we pop over to see Peter Pan and his Flight. Now the biggy. Will the two with street cred to lose take a ride on IASW with Mam and Dad? Julie agreed as it might be good (we’d seen things we’d missed in 99 and they were so cute) and Gaz pondered, looked up and down Fantasyland in case there were any mates from Spennymoor watching, and said “Suppose so”. Me and V liked it, J said it was better than last time and Gaz’s face was as much a picture of embarrassment as it was way back then.
Off to Tomorrowland and the ‘three that aren’t me’ rode Buzz while I went to see if they could get the Teleportation thingy working properly this time on Alien Encounter. They couldn’t and a man in the back row got his head bitten off –again!
Had to wait 30 minutes to get terrified in the dark (not used to this queuing lark) and when I came out V was sitting on her own outside Buzz. Thinking she was lost, I tried to avoid her but she saw me before I could duck behind a trashcan. The kids had gone to ride Buzz another two times and she thought she’d sit in the shade and wait for me in case I got lost!

Back over to Fantasyland and we took in the Legend of the Lion King Show. Had forgotten that the pre show was the bit standing up and got a pleasant surprise when the doors opened and we got the chance to sit down. I like the way Disney intermingle the Cinema sections with puppetry. Like Mermaid, maybe one for the littluns and girls – J loves it. We just love the Lion King so a vote from me and V too. Not sure Gazz’s getting the most from his holiday – all hunched shoulders and “Can we go yet, Dad”.

“Frontierland, Son” you’ll have fun there. The boy’s stride quickened and we were quickly leaving his Mam behind so had to slow down, grab her by the hand, and drag her into the pace of someone not 85 year old!

We stopped at Splash to get 4 Fastpasses for me and the boy after Big Thunder Mountain. I tried one last time to get Julie to give this a go – she’ll love it once she’s on it. With the promise of buying her Brer Fox after me and the boy do Splash (not tempting me luck suggesting she should try Splash!) she agreed and we headed up the path for BTMR. We’d sat V down on a bench by the Well so she could watch as we screamed our way passed her. Assuming she didn’t walk round the well, she shouldn’t get lost there. I figured the best place for J was at the front as it wouldn’t be so fast there. We let one train go as our turn would have put us at the back – G was well sick. We got in the next train and I sat holding me little Princess tight for comfort and support. As soon as we were off she tightened up. The ratchet noise as the train gets pulled up the inside cavern was scaring our J witless. “Oh well done, Dad. Another roaring success this one!” I could feel her terror as she tensed all her little body when the funnel got to the top of the hill and disappeared from view as it plummeted to the bottom of what – to her – seemed like a drop to catastrophe. I sensed by the way she pushed me away from her and held her little hands in the air that she was warming to this ride!
“Wheeeee!!!!!” We twisted and turned and rocked and bumped our way round the track. We even saw V still sitting where we’d left her and someone had shown her how to use our Camcorder so I’ve got a nice footage of us on that one.
Well that had been a success.
See, worth the bribe of the Beanie wasn’t it? J ran off the ride and back to Mam. Excited to tell her how brave she’d been? Not on your life, she had her hand out for the $2 V had added to me bribe to get her on the thing! Then Gaz was in his pocket and handing over the $1 bill he’d been sucked into in her “I’ll do anything for shopping” scam.

Me and the boy did Splash twice in quick succession, thanks to FP and J was clutching her latest Beanie as we came through the shop.

Pirates next and we had to wait 30 minutes. That’s an hour I’ve stood this morning!

12.00 and we’re hungry so we headed for The Diamond Horseshoe Saloon. We love it here and looked forward to the sit down and a sandwich. Coz it was right on show time, we couldn’t get a seat and V and the kids didn’t fancy standing. I sent them off to get turkey Legs as a backup plan (see- flexible and efficient) while I videoed the Singing Cowboy. I quickly found Gaz and V&J were right beside him, where I’d told them to stand.
Got me Turkey Leg and we ate them as we exited the park. I threw mine away – awful, greasy things they are but V, G & J loved theirs and were still gnawing on the bones half an hour later. I thought we’d have to let the bus that was in go, as they were still ripping away at the fleshy foul like Backwoodsmen, but the kind lady bus driver said they could eat them on the bus so we got on. I taped the whole journey from MK to ASMu coz I’m sad. V&J were still eating their turkeys when we got off the bus!

Straight to the car and we were at last goin to find this Wonderland that is Wal-Mart. While waiting for the others to wake up this morning, I’d had the brainwave of locating the store by looking the address up in the phone book – have you seen the size of them phone books ?!!! Cross referencing the address with me selection of maps, I quickly found the one that was in the opposite direction on the 192 to the way I’d been driving the other night! So off we set along Osceola, into Kiss Old Town left onto the 192 then drive till you see the biggest superstore ever!
Thanks to me navigational skills, we were soon there and entering this multilane shopping extravaganza. We were immediately impressed with the sheer size and floor plan of the place. To keep us focused, and V from spending, we had a plan! We were after towels, pool shoes, walkie-talkies , tapes and batteries- and nothing else – oh, except beer, nearly forgot.
$189 later, mission accomplished and only four lollies and three Crunchy Snickers over in our shopping – not bad. The three Snickers were a treat for not hassling me when they wanted to go down unauthorised aisles.

Back to the plan now and off to Wet’N’Wild via John Young Parkway. I trusted V with the camcorder again and have some footage of Orlando roads to add to me “We’ll not go round to Dave and Valerie tonight or they’ll put one of them videos on again” collection. Ah, the bliss of a visitor free home! Surprised how easy we found our way we actually spotted the other Wal-Mart en-route. Typical, none to be seen the other night now two come together!

We were in WNW for 3.30 and me and V took the chance for our first real sit down of the holiday, while G & J ran around on all the slides. I wanted to play on the slides too but the lure of me new walkie-talkies was too much. Anyway, me feet were givin me awful gyp. The gel heel cushions I’d bought to ease the pain of the initial blisters had lifted me feet too high in the shoe. Now the resultant rubbing against the back of the shoe had caused more blisters – poor me!

We left WNW as it closed and headed for IoA. I was immediately impressed that me car park fee ($5) saved me the $7 fee at US/IoA.
[Note in ‘TightMan’’s diary for next time – drive to WNW, buy parking ticket then head straight to US/IoA and save $2 every time.]
We loved the overall image of Islands of Adventure as soon as we entered the park and we set off for Seuss Landing.

There was a 30 minute wait for Cat in the Hat and Gaz was suffering another of his migraines – he should have been a woman! Me and J went to ride and sent V & G to the first aid post for aspirin. We were on the ride in only 7 minutes and loved it. G & V were coming back from the first aid post when we came out the CitH – I knew coz I called them on me new WTs. I sat with the boy with the sore head and no sense of humour while V & J rode CitH together – too swirly for V – wimp.
There was a 40 minute wait posted on 1 Fish 2 Fish and, judging by the line, this was accurate so we decided to miss the rides for tonight. Gaz wasn’t happy, so no ride buddy for me and me feet were killing me. We hobbled round to get the ‘ feel’ of the place and left around 7ish to go to Belz.

If you remember, Gaz hadn’t got to go into the Levi shop the other night so we headed there first. A shirt and 2 T’s for him and a T shirt for Dad (well I don’t like to be missed out) and then we headed for the other Mall. There was a tent sale in between them and we thought to pass them by as it all looked like cheap tat. “But Dad, they’ve got Adidas and Nike !” My, he perked up quick enough. Another couple of Ts for him and his sister and we moved on.
Disney Character Warehouse next to stock up on 2000 pins for Julie to swap – the CMs weren’t bothered how many she swapped. V treated herself to a Mickey in Safari suit pin for her hat coz it’s her favourite costume. We left Belz at 9.15 and decided to find a Perkins to try something different.

Intl Drive was murder – two sets of roadworks – and it seemed to take forever but we eventually pulled into Perkins at about 10ish. We agreed to use the i4 or JYP/Osceola routes from now on.
We all fancied seafood tonight so ordered 2x Captains Catch (D&J)- shrimp, cod, clams, onion rings, fries and dips and 2x SeaFood Platter (V&G) –cod, fries, coleslaw and mayo. They were all very nice – well cooked and presented and loads on the plates. We had 2x banana and cream pie (D&G),Lemon Meringue (V) and ice cream (J) for desert. The bill with drinks was $48 which we thought was very reasonable and agreed to do Perkins again.

We headed home for 11.30 and the three snorers were back to their unique sound within minutes. I sat up with a Bud and checked through me notes so far.

It’s 12.15 now, Stranger and I’m tired for some reason so I’ll bid you goodnight. I hope something funny or disastrous happens tomorrow or I’ll be losing even you me loyal “I’ll read anything Dave ,in the hope you split your head open or something” friend.

Another brill report Dave. Glad you didn't lose V today.:D
