We are staying at SSR for our trip in April 2021 for 4 days, but will only have one park day. I'm looking for suggestions of things to do that AREN'T Disney/Universal. Where can we go to look for manatees? Are there parks/gardens/museums that you love? Interesting breweries/wineries in the area? I've been looking online for some things, but wanted to know what the good folk on the DISboards would recommend! TIA!!

One of our favorite places is Harry P Leu Gardens.

Some other choices:
The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. ...
Cornell Fine Arts Museum. ...
CityArts. ...
Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center of Florida. ...
Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts. ...
Winter Park History Museum. ...

If you will be there on a Sunday, we love the Wat Thai temple market in Tampa. Be there by 10 am for the best selection. From there, you can go to St Pete and see the Dali Museum, Sunken Gardens, or the Chiluly installations. We have never been to the Lowry Park zoo but did enjoy the aquarium downtown Tampa.

Winter Park is a great place to visit. The Morse Museum with Tiffany glass is free on Fridays in April. Stop at 4 Rivers bbq for lunch and spend the afternoon at Harry P Leu Gardens. The Orlando Science Museum and Orlando Art Museum are near Harry P Leu gardens and can be nice depending on what special exhibits are there. Stop by Sister Honeys near downtown for some great pies and baked goods.

Another garden we like is Bok Towers Garden in Lake Wales. The house is best at Christmastime, but the gardens are always a nice place to walk. Take the free tour of the grounds.

We love lunch at the Columbia in Celebration. We get the infamous half 1905 salad with either black bean soup or half a Cuban sandwich.

The sweetest oranges ripen in April. Head to Showcase of Citrus and get some Valencia oranges. They make the best juice.

Make sure to check websites since many place require advanced reservations.

When our January cruises were cancelled we flew down anyway and split the trip between Cape Canaveral and Orlando. Went on the Victory Casino boat and a Wildside tour to see lots of manatee and dolphins out by the coast. Then switched to the Hilton Grand Vacations at Sea World. Special ticket got us one day at Discovery Cove (AI with breakfast, lunch, snorkeling with a ton of fish, dolphin encounter and nice beachy area) and multiple entries to both Sea World and Aquatica. Those three parks easily kept us occupied in Orlando for 6 days even with marginal weather. Got a cabana at Aquatica, which was a nice private area in the middle of their fast lazy river. You really need to get out to the coast to see manatee (although Sea World has a large number in their rescue area). We were surprised how nice the Discovery Cove property was for all ages and would not hesitate to do it again.
