Ok, thanks to these boards I knew that Tide detergent tablets were still available......if you could find them. While doing a looky-loo thru Big Lots tonight, I found them !!! So now we're all ready for our November 17 day trip, Wonder 4 day cruise 11/14 - 18, Miami 11/18 - 22 and back to WDW 11/23 - 29

Good for you! Have not done laundry at a laundromat since college days, but purchased the very small boxes of Tide (they had other brands too) at a local laundromat for 50 cents per box. Nicely contained and fit great in to the luggage. Most likely, one could easily put some powder laundry detergent in ziploc bags too, this was even more contained for me.

Have a great cruise!

Better stock up the, because if they were at Big Lots, it is likely they have been discontinued.

They had them in the Big Lots by us too. I was wondering if they disintegrate over time, or if a year from now, they'll still be in tablet form. Does anyone know? I'll buy them if they'll keep, I would only use them away from home.

I've had some downstairs for 2 years (only one pack left from a box) and I just checked and it was fine....

Do not take powered detergent in zip lock bags on an airplane with you. They will seach every piece of your luggage and then some.

Seems that powered stuff can possible look like something else :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

aprilgail2, thanks for checking! I'm going to buy them while I can.

I have had some of the tide tablets for somewhere around 4 years....still in tablet form.... (they don't work in my washer...so i'm glad to have a reason to use them up...once and for all)

I also found some more at wal mart this past week....in the travel/goodie isle (you know the isle with all the mini shampoos and lotions)

The Tide Tablets will last for several years. We have been using them since they came out (hopefully they ARE NOT going to stop making them). We keep them in our camper and have never had a problem with them disenigrating. It gets very hot in the camper when it is in storage (much hotter then even a home garage) and they have always been solid.

These are a great choice for cruising, just put a couple of dryer sheets in a ziplock and you are set.

Hopefully you won't be spending to much time in the laundry. ;)

Have a great time !!

I'll have to check out our local Big Lots & stock up on some. I still have some left over from our 2001 trip and they're still in good shape. I was thinking about testing one out but I didn't want to waste any of my "stash". LOL. I can't believe I'm trying to hoard my Tide tablets.

Tide Tablets are still available at Shaw Supermarkets in New England.

I couldn't get the Tide disks to disintegrate beating them up in a wash machine full of hot water. LOL. All the loads came out with a big soap disk stuck to them. I threw away a jumbo size box.

Don't they sell boxed soap in the laundry rooms?

The Big Lots near me in Springfield, NJ has them. I bought them last week.

I've never used them before but am planning to on the cruise. Has anyone had any problems 1stNoel with them dissolving?

Thanks,

Reneé

I used them for the last 2 yrs and was very dissappointed when i couldn't find them anywhere for the vac that we just got back from.

I bought Purex Tabs from our local Jewel Store for our last Vacation. They worked great! Even though they are tabs, I did have my bag searched at the airport. No big deal, they were in a ziploc baggie and not taken out of their original wrappers.

Actually powdered detergent looks like, um, powdered detergent. I have traveled with it in ziploc bags in my checked luggage three or four times and feel confident that no inspector nor canine with any sense or training would confuse it with cocaine for a second!

I had tried to use the Purex tabs (haven't tried the Tide, but since I don't like regular Tide I figure wouldn't like the tabs either) but they have SO MUCH FRAGRANCE ADDED. Even my husband who never notices that sort of thing complained. So we take our usual detergent but triple bag it (individual load amounts in small plastic bags, then a few of those in a larger freezer-thickness plastic bag, then usually put that inside another plastic grocery-story type bag.

I went to Big Lots today and found the tide tablets!! Now I have to save them only for vacations!! They stopped selling them every place else around here and the store managers told me they stopped making it!

I could not get them to disintegrate either...Hated them until I smashed them up before I put them in and ran the water swishing it a lot before putting in the clothes...I hope this helps.

I for one will get some small boxes from the laudromat before my trip.

LOL. I had forgotten about that part. I ended up beating them in the packs before opening (trying not to destroy the plastic and make a mess) but it still did not work well. I could only use about 1/4 of one tablet in a load or otherwise the smell was just overwhelming.

We had several left over (and since I am cheap) I tried to use them up when washing loads of my husband's clothes (he usually is just not at all sensitive to smells!) He busted me and insisted he didn't want to smell that stuff any more than the rest of us. I found things to wash using it (rugs, dogs sleep pads) until it was gone. :teeth:

Thanks for the Heads Up! I just ran out and bought some at our Big Lots. I still had some left from the box I had bought a year or so ago, but now we are set for a for quite a while. We used up all we took with us to WDW two weeks ago. We had not problems with them and they pack so well.

Thanks again!
