Found more rumor on beach DVC near the Fort

Hello all this is my first post.

That is actually my info they are seaking of. I sent that in yesterday. I was at Fort Wilderness Last weekend and was at the TCD ranch and was told by a CM there that they were closing the current ranch and moving it up front. So being the Disney person I am I pushed for more info which she was happy to give. She said that they had less than a year maybe 10 months in there current spot and they were going to be leveling the ranch, river country, beach are between River country and Wilderness lodge, for a new resot to take advantage of the Beach. I askjed about the Backyard BBQ and she said she hadnt heard / asked. I found this post / forum searching the net for more info.

I remember taking a tour of the WL a number of years ago,(at least 10 probably more) and during the tour it was mentioned about eventual plans to build in the area between the WL and FW. At that time I recall the cast member mentioning a possible "western town" type of theme. So..who knows.:confused3

I remember hearing that from a CM years ago as well. So who knows.

I so hope you're right and they keep the "outdoorsy" theme. I'm not shocked that they want another DVC. I think one wise man said here recently that it's about the almighty dollar. I get that. I'm just hoping that they continue to maintain and enhance the Fort. We have so many memories at the Fort already and I had dreams of wintering over at the Fort once DH retired and watching my kids create their own Disney traditions with their kids.

I've seen some things on this board while lurking in past months that the guests that stay at the Fort are second class in some way. It's funny that all these years we've stayed in our MH at the Fort, I always felt that other resort regulars would envy the way me and my family get to experience Disney. I've never been treated "less than" or at least not that I noticed (and I notice) by other people we meet at WDW or employees we meet and get to talk to.....

Lone-Star/Michael- Thanks for posting this. It looks like the source of this rumor is the same as what others who have already posted here have heard- a FW castmember. So, we know that this rumor is making the rounds-but so far only around the Fort.

It still doesn't make sense to me.

But, time will tell.

I have to agree with you. These things don't seem to match up. I can see some expansion of an existing development into that area, but a new resort doesn't seem to make any sense.

That being said, perhaps it is going to be some type of new access tied into the proposed development on Discovery Island. Maybe they are going to move ahead with that.

Who knows. However, I would think that squeezing the fort on both sides with development just doesn't have the right ring to it. :confused3

Happy to help.

Maybe it will be an expansion of something somewhere between FW and WL that will actually be a benefit to fort guests. I'm not banking on that but it could happen. I hate to see the barn moved because it's in a convenient place for the guests. It's obvious River Country has served it time and it's gone. Why let it just sit there and fall the rest of the way down?

I can't understand why disney would take the time and money to put into the new calliope display in the barn if they are going to move it. Maybe it's a ploy to fool us :confused3

I agree with you, Donnie. At first, I thought building something in this area would be detrimental to the Fort. But, if you think about it, IF Disney does spent money to drop a new DVC resort on this site, that will mean new restaurants, or at least substantial improvements to Trail's End. Also, the sad eyesore the RC has become would be gone. Transportation could become more congested, but that is easy enough to fix. This could be more of a positive than a negative.

What would really frost some buns, though, would be IF FW guests were prohibited from entering the DVC property, which is the current situation over at Bay Lake Tower. Even registered guests of the Contemporary Resort cannot enter the BLT property or pool area. But, the BLT guests are free to use the Contemporary Resort's amenities.

Good point. Also, earlier this year, they spent a bit of money on modifying the old Pop's Place building to create easier access to the old River Country restrooms for Backyard BBQ guests. While that wasn't a huge project, it did cost something. So why spend any money on a improvements that are about to be torn down?

Not to over simplify, but Disney is outstanding at identifying Supply and Demand. DVC is a perfect example. The timed rollout, covering many years, has been implemented to minimize capital expenditure without an "almost" guaranteed return. They don't necessarily subscibe to the "build it and they will come" philosophy.

Why the long winded diatribe (sp?)? Well, the only thing I am truly concerned about, is the continued existence of FW. As long as there is a demand (like there is now), we will always have a home. Will it always be like it is today.....nope. Things will change, but I will do my best to take the good with the bad.

the downside for me would be if they make it related to in any way, like a sister resort, to the fort, DVC members will no longer be allowed to use their points at the fort. there are very few hotels left in the disney collection these days and i think this is disney's way of phasing out that benefit. that said, i would almost want to sell the RV and buy points there, especially if they would allow pets. now THAT would be the ultimate disney resort!
