In all of 2009 we decided to save every single coin we found on the ground...end of the year we'd see how much it came to.
What a lovely surprise this was!

Now remember, this is a penny here, sometimes a quarter or two and every now and then we'd find a dollar.
The total..........

44.03!! :scared1: Dang! The only thing we had to put out was the energy to bend over and pick it up!! LOL

Anyone else out there save found money?

So this was money you just "found"? In one year? WOW...I bet if I'm lucky I pick up $2 worth all year but I will pick up a penny!

We do the same thing! When I take my jar to the bank they know its for my vacation savings account! We average about $50. It's not a lot but I'll take it!:thumbsup2

My dh does this! He can really pick up some cash. He delivers bread to different fast food places. He loves to wait until the cars leave the drive through so he can go over. He has picked up upwards of a 1.50 a day on a good day...just in the Burger King drive through!

So..if you are coming out of the fast food places, wait until all the cars leave and you will be surprised how many people will just let their change lay there because once it drops from the window they don't care.

Yep, one coin at a time! LOL
To be honest I was surprised to see how often we'd find several coins in one spot. That was weird to me.

Of course the paper money we found over the year helped too...found 2-3$ in little bundles every now and then. Not sure what that's all about but we'll take it!

I've heard of others doing this too. Bet that does add up!

Our grocery stores list the amount saved right on their reciepts so one thing we're thinking of starting is looking at our grocery reciepts and seeing how much we *saved*. Then we'd take that amount and tuck it into another safe spot and see how much we *saved* over the year.
This might actually rev me up a bit to try harder to use coupons! LOL

That is a GREAT idea!!! I think i'll start doing that too! We've always put our spare change in a big bucket called our disney bucket. My parents got dd one of those coin counter containers for Christmas and so far we've put half the disney bucket money in it and have over $50!

When we went to see The Nutcracker in December we were leaving and DD found a $10 bill on the ground. She picked it up and asked the people in front of us if it was theirs and they said no. Little miss pocketed $10 - and won't spend it :lmao:

Good for your daughter!! $10....that's a big save!!

my first bank account was opened with over 50 dollars in just pennies that i found on the ground. The bank thought i was crazy. And i could barely lift the tin to carry it into the bank. All hand rolled to, back before these counters...

I was always a change hog. And now i save change in a big 5gal water jug.

Yes, I save the coupon amount on the bottom of the grocery receipt, not that entire amt (my husband wouldn't go for that ) I have in just over a year and a half over 1800! We have double coupons and sometimes our stores have 10% off as well as $10 off an order coupons. They all add up. I also keep money I save on stamps by paying over the phone and change found on the ground.

Last year in WDW, my son found a receipt wrinkled around the change from a $50 bill!! (almost $50)

I never find $ laying around on the ground! I was in the drive thru Rx line last week and the lady in front of me, got out walked to the side of her car and picked 3 bills out of a puddle! Lucky!

My husband runs. He stops to pick up every single coin he finds, then puts that coin into his childhood ceramic piggy bank.

When he cannot get another coin in the bank, he uses a knife to get the money out, then buys himself a new pair of running shoes!

My dd does. She's 6 and I swear she has a metal detector in her hand. She finds money everywhere. I've tried to talk her into saving it all until the end of the year to see how much it is but she usually spends it on something. Since she is the finder, I let her.

She usually finds pennies but sometimes quarters.

My 10 year old DS is the same way. He walks with his nose to the ground! :rotfl: The kid comes home with all kinds of treasures: money, jewelry (mostly junk!), toys, etc. Of course, the most valuable is money, but he's a serious collector of all things...:rotfl2:

I do this. We actually paid for all of our meals at Disney with 'found money'. Between spare pocket change and picking up all of the change we found on the street, we saved almost $600 over the course of about a year! :woohoo:

She brings home all kinds of treasures too :rotfl: I am constantly tossing out pretty rocks and things that make their way home with her. She's found a dollar bill a few times too.

I just rolled the change that was in a 5gal water jug and had $189! My food, gas, incidental and souvenir budget is $1200 but I still have 10 months to go to save more. Last trip I had saved over $800 and started later but I also started putting all the bills left over at the end of the day and then threw in a couple hundred dollar bills when I had some extra money. It made it a lot nicer to have "extra" money. If it is in my bank account I find it easier to spend or transfer from another account, but I won't spend the change or bills in the jug.

I also pick up all the money I find on the ground and often walk looking down because pennies are everywhere. My kids used to laugh at me until they saw how fast it adds up.

Oh, yes...he's a rock collector too! I can't begin to tell you how many I've washed! Let's just say, when our washing machine died, there were many little rocks in the pump...:sad2:
