We got a letter from our state rep last week that I had unclaimed money. I could not find out the amount as it was a long weekend. I did some searches online and found a site that lists money that is unclaimed. There I was!

I found out from the state this am that my amount is $600. I am totally psyched!!!!!!!! :yay::yay::yay::yay:

Here's the site for all of you to check. I hope you all find something too!

Edited to add.

Check your friends and relatives too. I found some for my brother as well.

I had no luck finding anything for myself BUT I did find stuff from my father and my step father who passes away 2 years ago so I bookmarked it for my mum to see when she gets home... unfortunately I no longer have a relationship with my father and he doesnt even live in this state so I do not really have an idea as to what to do with that.

The one from my step father says its under $100 so we can hopefully get it back and put it towards the disney fund!

I'm sorry about your relationship with your Dad and the loss of your step dad. I did mean to say in my post to check family and friends too. I found something for my brother.

With regards to your Dad, I don't know what to say other than, if someone knows where he is, they could let him know.

Hello,

I had unclaimed money through the State and tried to get it but it was when I was a child and lived with my Grandparents they are both deceased. I got it notarized and everything but got a letter stating that I need proof that I lived there. I explained I was a child and they both were gone but that is the only way I can receive the money although I had all the other information. Good luck with getting it I feel that they make it as difficult as possible so they don't have to give it to you.

If your state doesn't participate on missingmoney.com google the state name and "state treasurer."

The state might have a separate website, like indianaunclaimed.com

found "50-100" dollars for my sweet DH. Have searched before, but guess this has just come available....thanks a million:cool1::cool1::cool1::worship::worship:

Interesting. I found my name on the Virginia list, which is where I used to live. It has a different city listed than the one I used to live in. In the description it says that it could be a town where you did business. How do I find that out?

I just found money for my oldest son, my neice and sister-in-law. None for me though....lol

I am not an expert, but I would call the state of Virginia State Treasurer. I am sure they have a way of confirming if this is you.

Congrats to all of you so far who have found something! Who knew?:yay:

Thanks! I think I might have found my mom some money (over $100), but it might take some time because its a really old address, from another state, and with her maiden name.

something else for people who have had a FHA/HUD mortgage to check is:

http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/comp/refunds/index.cfm

We had paid some money to them apparently back in 1997 when we got our 1st house. Last summer we got a letter from some companies all of a sudden that were telling us we had a refund due to us and they would help us get it (for a fee of course). After some googling, I found the actual hud site and all I had to do was type in my last name it validated that I was due a refund (of over $2K!!) and they didnt charge me anything to get my money back.

I had to put in some leg work to get some documents they required for backup, but 2 hours of work was well worth the $2300 or so I got back.

That's great! :yay: I did mean to mention to look in other states you've lived or worked and all names you've had (as well as for family).

Mine said over $100 too. I figured it would be $105. I was shocked when I learned today that it was $600!:cool1:

So it shows I have a checking account in my maiden name from when I was in college (probably never closed it out) but it doesn't say how much money is in it. Just "less than $100". Where are you all seeing how much money is found?

:confused3

You'll only find that out when you call. Our state treasurer's office gave me the info this am. Less than $100 is more than zilcho. :)
