I've been trying to figure out a way to contribute to our trip this September, but as a stay at home mom of two young kids its been hard to find things. I can't go back to work because (1) I don't want to be away from my baby all day and (2) I'd spend more on daycare then I'd make working part time.

SOoooooo, I offered MY babysitting services on a local facebook group (of moms). Today I had someone contact me that needs a babysitter starting in June for 4 days a week :)
It won't be a LOT of money, but it will be extra money to go towards our trip! :thumbsup2

Yay for babysitting :)

That's great! What's the going rate for sitters? I have no idea. I used to make $1/hour, $1.50/hour after midnight. And I has happy to get it. (I'm not really that old-this was in the early-mid 70's.)

My very cheap awesome in (her) home babysitter for 4 days a week is 120.00. However, a girl I work with pays 283.00 a week for one kid 5 days a week.

Great find!

some one else asked the "Going rate"... it very much varies from area to area and also the particulars of the arrangment and the ages of the children involved. Example... Summer Care... my boys 10 and 8 (not old/mature enough to stay home alone for 9 hours a day while DH& I are out working )

our options for summer care..

1. MIL watching them m-f - we'll pay $550 a month... and we know this is a DEAL...
2. Summer program through thier school... $225.00 a WEEK m-f for the two of them..
3. my cousin does a home "child care" program... it would cost me $800 a month for her.

a friend of mine has a home child care situation where she needs child care for her 18 month baby 2 full days and 3 part days a week... she pays $150 a week ... and considers that cheap..

We will be meeting up to decide on a price soon, but I'm thinking around $120/week for her 11 month old. She will provide milk and diapers but I will provide meals/snacks. Should be about 4 days a week, 6hr days.
We are a smaller community, so to me this sounds fair I think.

Yay! :)

I babysit 4 days a week (10 hours a day) and charge $100 for the week. It's been helping us start paying down our CC so we can book our trip next year. :)

In the US, income from a home daycare is taxable at the self-employment rate but I'm not sure what the laws are in Canada.

Either way, it will be some extra money for your trip.
