Found a cheap resale - too good to be true?

Ok, maybe this isn't cheap? I just don't know. I saw a VWL 150 points going for $10,500 on a resale website. That sounds really cheap doesn't it? I am thinking we only need 150 points - at least for now. I am guessing we'll go to WDW maybe every year (most likely every other but after we make this 1st trip I think we'll be one of those people who make the effort to go yearly!) during the off season (kids are not in school yet & I don't mind taking them out until middle school). Our next trip (Sept) we are staying at VWL (bought points from a DVC'er) 2 bed/2bath for 150 points! I figure I may as well take the leap & buy in to DVC but I don't want SSR. Just curious if others find this "deal" a good one. I can pay cash for it too.
Thanks for any advice!
Erin

$73 with closing costs.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Are there any points left on it for 2004 or 2005? If it works for you then I would say go for it.

It will have to get by ROFR, but we will sprinkle lots of PD your way!

Call the broker before somebody else does!

Here is what the ad says "Renew month April, 48 now, 150 4/1/05". We are going in Sept so we do not plan to go again b4 4/1/05 so I don't really need any points now. Do I lose those 48 points if I don't use them? Sorry to sound so dumb, but this DVC stuff is a bit confusing!
I forgot to mention that we will probably be going Sun nights - Thurs nights - so 150 points is perfect for a 2 bed/2 bath. We don't even really need something that big but we wanted our 1st trip with kids to be PERFECT! If we decide to stay longer we will bank or pull ahead.
Ok, so it does not sound "fishy" to anyone?

Sounds pretty good to me. The 48 points available in the current use year can be banked to next year as long as they are regular points, not borrowed, banked from '03 use year, or holding points. There are deadlines for banking, but April is still a ways off, so you should be ok. Good luck! You'll love VWL!

AS far as the 48 points, it depends on if they were banked or borrowed already, or in a holding account. If not, you should be able to bank them so that on 4/1/05 you'd have 198 points to use in that year. Assuming that this is a 150 point contract, those points should be able to be banked.

I am reading now about Disney's right of first refusal (meaning they can actually buy this out from under me???) & am wondering if this would go thru at such a low amount. Hate to get my hopes up & then Disney steal it.

Erin,

We are in the process of closing a BCV 100 pt. contract with all 2004 points available. Purchase price is $65 per point + closing.

I can't speak for what the ROFR "gods" might do about the VWL contract but doesn't hurt to try.

BTW, this is my second resale contract that passed at $65.

Good Luck!

We just closed on a VWL resale last week. We passed ROFR at $70.00 per point. So you should be fine. Right now it seems like resales at VWL are hard to come by. You may not want to let this one get away from you!! Good Luck!

I think you're fine with ROFR. The resale agent should be able to advise you, as they deal with these issues all of the time.

There have been others that have re-bid on a contract that Disney wanted to buy. Let your broker know your intentions.

VWL contracts don't last long, especially ones with points available, so I would call the broker now and worry about ROFR later if it is really what you want.
Don't mean to be pushy, but it has happened too often and this one sounds like a good match for you. And if it does happen, Im sure you will find another contract to your liking just keep looking.

We won an e-Bay auction earlier this week for a 370 pt. VWL contract. The contract was offered through a Re-Max realtor in Orlando. The only bid we placed during the entire 30-day auction was just a few seconds before the auction ended and, lo & behold, we snagged it! The price ended up being just over $71 per point. In addition to the 370 points coming on September 1, all 2003 points are banked. We just faxed our paperwork to the realtor today. We are a bit concerned about this passing ROFR but the woman in the Re-Max office said they had a very similar contract recently pass ROFR.

We are thrilled with this contract and would be disappointed to have it pulled out from underneath us!!

DCD might excercise ROFR, but plenty of deals have been clearing ROFR at around that price, for OKW. You might be taking chances with VWL, but what the heck? If they ROFR you, juts bid on another one later; you'll get one some time. If you are happy with it, go for it; you have nothing to lose.

Good luck!

Wow. I'm amazed that anyone would sell a contract this cheap for BCV(they could easily get $75+ for this) and that Disney let it pass.

There is one listed now at $80, and I've never seen BCV below the 70's. Who did you buy through. Great deal, plus all this years points.

Jen (from HI),
Where do you live? Dh & I used to live in Mililani. MISS IT! Just a question, why do you go all the way to WDW instead of DL? Or Vegas, since that is where ALL the Hawaiians go (ok, gross generalization, but it sure seemd like it!)!

Erin,

We live on the other end of the Rock in Hawaii Kai :D

Our boys ( 8 & 6) have been to DL 4 times since the oldest was 2.
Then in 2002 we took them to WDW. In 2003 we went back to DL and they said " Is that it!"

We all just love WDW....you can totally emerse yourself in the Magic of it all. And since coasters are a big deal since we don't have that here, the boys also enjoy Universal/Islands of Adventure.

It is true that the 9th Hawaiian Island is called Las Vegas:p
That was our place to go before the kids....now we "deposit" our $$$$ with Mickey!

Sending you some Aloha!
