We will be at Universal August 13-16. Is it necessary to have FOTL during this time? We are trying to decide whether it is worth the extra $400.00 to stay onsite and have this priviledge or stay at the Swan (teacher discount) and just arrive early, etc. Can any summer veterans help out?

We always go in August and yes, you will need the FOTL benefit. Spend the extra money.

That week is when kids will be going back to school. Look at the park hours here.

The first week of August is packed, the park stays open until 10pm.
Then they cut it back to 9pm, and then 8pm when you will be going.

The good news, is you are going on the week days. It's really a toss up.
Stay off site, you save a bunch of money. Stay onsite, and you "feel" like you are part of the action, and you can walk back and forth to parks.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will stay onsite (probably HRH), especially if the parks close earlier. We always stay onsite at Disney for the ease of getting to the parks and for the true feel of the parks, so I think we will miss something by staying offsite.
