We're thinking of taking the family in June in our pop up camper. Has anyone ever stayed there? What's it like? Will we like the other clientele? More importantly, will they like us (lesbian-moms w 4 kids)?

I've never camped there (stayed in the "cabins" there a few times). It's really nice. All the trees around you gives you the feeling of really camping, while the Parks are a bus or car-ride away.

It's one of the top-rated campgrounds in North America (by both AAA and Good Sam Club), and it's Disney so you really can't go wrong :P

I worked there for about 3 years (at the front desk) and loved it. It is still one of my favorite places in Disney. The atmosphere is great, the activities are amazing (The Chip & Dale Campfire Sing-Along & movie is one of my favorite things on property :p).

The property is also very beautiful, and it was one of the original WDW properties that opened in 1971 (along with the Contemporary and Polynesian).

I'm a "they" so let me give at it - the Fort is an awesome campground! Picture the best campground you've ever stayed at.....the Fort is 10 times better! If you like camping, you'll love it there. Join us over at the "Camping at Disney" board - you'll get alot of great Fort info over there.

p.s. - if you have AAA they were giving a discount on popup sites for June

And it is Disney - I cannot imagine they would bat an eye at 2 moms with children.

While we have never stayed at Fort Wilderness, I can truly say that Disney is the gay friendliest family vacation spot. My DP, Amy and I have been going since 2000 and have never had a single issue with feeling uncomfortable about our gayness. It is very welcoming and I would expect Fort Wilderness to be the same. We now have kids and it is awesome to spend time there with them. Enjoy!

My dear abcmouse,

My late husband and I camped at FW in a tent for our first anniversary in 2008. We really enjoyed ourselves and I would go back in a minute. Other than the buses going by in the distance, it was very quiet. If you go, make sure you eat at Trails End. It is a buffet and is considered by many to be the best deal on property. Also at Fort Wilderness is the Hoop-de-doo Review, a go back and see again for me.

Luv 'n' Stuff
