Hi everyone,

We have an ADR for Trails End one evening so we can also check out people’s decorations - they look fabulous.

How easy is it to get a good taste of the decorations if we walk around? I know the resort is huge and we will have been on our feet all day at MK, so it’s unlikely we’ll be in the mood to walk for hours. However, if I can avoid the extra charge of a carriage ride, that would be good also.

Are the decorations spread throughout the resort or mainly in certain areas? Also, is there ever any walking maps put together to help people check out the most extravagant decorations?

Lastly, are the paths around the resort reasonably well lit to make for easy walking?

Thanks in advance :-)

I should add: if anyone has done the carriage ride and really believes it’s worth it, please could you share your experience. Thanks.

A few years ago on a beginning of Dec trip we did the first show of HDDR and then walked around the nearest sites for an hour or so to see the decorations.
We really enjoyed what we saw but it depends on who is staying there. There was no map and can not remember the lighting situation.

Thanks Cynbeth.

I’m not surprised that there wasn’t a map, as I thought it was a long shot question. Just a bit wishful that there might be a fan thread of sorts where each season people create a map or list detailing particularly interesting displays. Some of the displays I have seen on YouTube look fantastic. :santa:

The site decorations vary each year because it all depends on where the guests who decorate their campsites will be staying. Since FW can be pretty big to walk around I would just do the carriage ride! We love FW in December!

We took the Wagon Ride one year and saw quite a bit of the decorations that way.:)

And at $8.00 per Guest it is one of the cheapest things at WDW!:)

I wasn’t aware of the larger Wagons until now. Thanks for pointing them out. This could be a possibility.

If you watch or ask your question on the https://www.disboards.com/forums/camping-at-disney-world.24/ page, you will get a good idea of where the most extravagant displays are.

The paths are lit but not that great, but with all the Christmas lights that should help.

We saw a lot of the lights/decorations last December after our Trail's End dinner. We took the internal bus back to the front which drove very slowly and stopped at several bus stops on the way to the front. We were just blown away by how beautiful and how extensive the lights displays were.

That’s a great idea to take a ride on the buses.

WE took the wagon ride as well. I loved it, and it was economical. It was pretty nice to enjoy the ride with a group of people who all were having a great tiem checking out decorations.

Best way is a golf cart, but walking works, as long as you don't mind ;)

Is there an option to book the golf carts for just an hour or two?

I’ve decided to dismiss the carriage idea as, beyond the cost, I’m having a bit of a fight with my conscience about animal ethics. So we will probably walk around and see as much as we can by foot. However, if golf carts are an option, I’d love to hear about them.

I'm pretty sure the rentals are per day only, so you'd have to pay the day rate. I also know that they do sometimes sell out and you can make your reservation a year in advance.

From the disney page. It sounds like you could rent it for a few hours but it would still cost $59.00.

Rentals

Get around with ease when you rent an electric golf cart. Available for pickup at 1:00 PM, golf carts must be returned by 11:00 AM on the return date.

This is what DH & I are planning to do.

Thanks. I will need to ring them and see if I’ve left my booking too late. It would be a lot of fun to travel around with a golf cart.
